(below is the background on the story< above is a link that tells more in detail )

An Ohio mother of two was sentenced to 10 days in jail and placed on three years probation after sending her kids to a school district in which they did not live. Kelly Williams-Bolar was sentenced by Judge Patricia Cosgrove on Tuesday and will begin serving her sentence immediately. The jury deliberated for seven hours and the courtroom was packed as the sentence was handed down. She was convicted on two counts of tampering with court records after registering her two girls as living with Williams Bolar's father when they actually lived with her. The family lived in the housing projects in Akron, Ohio, and the father’s address was in nearby Copley Township. Additionally, Williams-Bolar’s father, Edward L. Williams, was charged with a fourth-degree felony of grand theft, in which he and his daughter are charged with defrauding the school system for two years of educational services for their girls. The court determined that sending their children to the wrong school was worth $30,500 in tuition. -

I read that..OMg...The judge must have been white? and had no idea of how it feels to raise children, and especially going to a school district like that. I know my mom would do anything to let me have a good education and to be safe. And if she has children, she should know the feeling, so why can't she be more considerate. The jury too!

When reading about it the judge mentioned that they hope her case will serve as an example, I totally understand on some level where the judge was coming from when it comes to following the law, BUT punishment should fit the crime and in regards to this crime the punishment was 100% too harsh. This woman is now a felon in the eyes of the law, "Because of the felony conviction, you will not be allowed to get your teaching degree under Ohio law as it stands today. The court's taking into consideration that is also a punishment that you will have to serve" - Judge Patricia Cosgrove
That is just wrong, it's one thing to make an example it's totally another thing to ruin someones chances of advancement.

Is this a joke??? What in the world?! Heck I'd applaud that mother for doing all she can to fix up her children's education. In fact, she should sue the local council (do you have that in America?) for having such poor schools that she had to resort to 'criminal activity'. KMT!

Hi Ladies,
I live here in the city of Akron, and yes, the story is very true. A friend of mine, just sent an email. He's going to start a fundraiser to help her pay back the $30,000 said to be owed to the Copley-Fairlawn School District. Please keep her and her family in your prayers. This is a mess, but, I'm looking for some good to come of it. I pray that the Akron Public Schools steps their game up, so that this doesn't happen again. This is what happens when you start dumbing down education because you don't think that the poor kids can keep up even begin to learn at or on the same level as kids from the richer neighborhoods. It happens all over the country.
It's a real shame. I'm working on getting my thoughts together to write a letter to the superintendent of schools and to the newspaper. I also plan on making my presence known at the school board meetings and speaking up once I get there. This is a travesty indeed.
Much love to you all.

WOW this is ridiculous if they want to sue her and sentence her for wanting a better education for her kids than the one that's available in her district she should sue them for offering her district such poor education after all if we are all equal under the eyes of the law why should the poor kids get a second hand education than the ones in the suburbs and how is is she charged for tuition her kids are enitled to an education as well how much would the other school tuition would have been worth in the words of Marthin luther king Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere

If she was a celebrity, nothing would happen to her. She would be told to serve 30 seconds of community service and that is it.
