Heat Damage to Natural Hair

Hello everyone, I have been a big fan of this site for a while but this is my first posting. I started my natural hair journey more than a year ago (Nov. 09) when I stopped getting relaxers. I would get periodic trims and blow outs through the transition. Now I want to wear my hair in natural styles but have found that there are parts of my hair in the front and crown that are straight despite never having been relaxed. I assume it is heat damage from the blow outs I got when I was transitioning. The straight pieces are making it really difficult to style my hair. Has anyone had any experience with this problem? Any suggestions for coaxing out my natural curl? Thanks in advance for all the help. RenaeH

I would suggest deep conditioning often. If that doesnt work, then try doing a protein treatment. If that doesnt work, then there is permanent damage. You will have two options, grow it out and cut it gradually or just cut it off now.

you can either wait till the hair grows out or, usually its best to just cut the straight ends now..it helps it grow faster and it looks sooo much better.....its gonna suck but sooner rather than later is better.....I held on to heat damaged ends for a whole year and my hair NEVER GREW!!! it didnt grow till i chopped it off
