Post by milwaukeechick 18th December 2010, 6:55 pm

My hair is 4 inches short, my body is big so it looks even worst to have a big body and little hair.
I have lost 10 pounds so far, but my hair is not growing fast enough. I know he loves me but this is hard on him to. He is use to me having long silky black hair and long eyelashes( i let those go too)

any tips on how i can grow my hair faster?? pig

I don't know how hard it is on him, but I'm sorry you're having a hard time with it. Taking proper care of your hair and getting the nutrients your body needs are just two of the aspects of getting your hair to grow and retaining the length that you get. But...stress is killer on your hair so you also need to concentrate in that area as well. (((((HUGS))))

Oops, I forgot...lol. I'm still learning, but I'm taking biotin 5000 mcg and using castor oil and peppermint oil on my hair for faster growth and keeping my fingers crossed Wink

I just started doing all of that, but I'll be glad to report back any results I get. I've read a lot about those things working to grow hair so we'll see.

wow.... um sorry ur having such a hard time w/ this whole natural thing right now. I'm thick as well, w/ a twa, but it's growing Smile i can definitely tell the difference b/c i always stretch my hair out and maybe you should do the same and take pictures so u can really see. As for the boyfriend thing, that's something ur gonna have to figure out urself; maybe it'll grow on him idk, BUT if ur not happy w/ how u look right now and the length, get a natural looking wig, sew in or something. check out ur options~

If you're going to change your hair and weight do it for yourself.

I agree with Emartini04. If you set out to do anything, let it be for you. The rest will fall in place. But stick it out gurlie, YOU CAN DO IT!

With a husband like that, who needs enemies! He should be sticking with you through thick and thin. Weight gain, short hair, long hair, no hair...you are still same person that he married and pledged to spend the rest of his life with. Is he that superficial that one change has turned him off from you? Your hair will grow, but when it does, I'm sure there will be something else that he will find to criticize. I'm sorry to sound 'negative' but that just really upsets me when I hear things like that.

I'm sorry that you have to go through this right now. I hope that you and your husband are able to fix the root of your problem b/c if its not one thing, its another! Continue to take care of yourself, have patience with your hair and don't stress b/c stress is a killer (2010 came with lots of stress-related illnesses in my circle of family and friends).

I hope my opinion does not offend you because that is not my intent: I believe that whenever major changes are made during a marriage, it should be a joint decision. Did you talk to your husband before you decided to cut your hair? I know that it is your hair, but when you merge your life with someone else, the decisions are not only yours to make. How about flat ironing to increase length and that will also decrease the puffiness you were worried about. When your hair reaches a good length, then explore the bigger natural styles.

I don't think it is fair to make someone accept a decision you made that also affects them.

My (soon to be) husband didn't want me to cut my hair either, but I didn't wanna walk around with a head full of limp, frizzy, damaged curls, so I cut it. In the end he agreed that my hair does look better now. Hopefully your husband will have a similar change of heart.

Hmmmmm. I do see where u are coming from.... (I too hope no offense is taken)...

When u marry someone it is because of what they saw "In" that person... NOT for appearence!
I feel that if a change wants to be made with "YOUR" hair, then do it... "HUSBAND" didn't give u that hair... "YOU" were born with it... Which means it is "YOUR HAIR!" It's only normal for us to ask our "other half" questions and opinions about our hair... But what makes him happy may NOT make you happy... (As far as hair is concerned)

It's "YOUR HAIR".... (remember that)!

BTW, I noticed that u said WEAVES are too expensive for you... Try wearing lace-fronts (no glue or tape is needed)! If YOU really want to go that route! rendeer

How about braids as an option? I'm sorry you're going through this. I'm a full figured woman who also rocks a TWA but I rock it all with confidence. Rock your makeup and accessories...play up your asset. Why'd you stop with the lashes? That's a great way to enhance your natural beauty. YOU have to let your confidence shine.

I understand your husband's position but hope he's expressing his dislike/concern in a caring and non critical manner. Men are visual and sometimes they just like what they like and it sounds like your husband likes you with more hair. Maybe you can share with your husband some of the info and pics from CN.com. Maybe that'll help him see what's ahead for your hair.

Best of luck to you!!! Hang in there.

You can take vitamins and continue on your health journey in order to ensure you retain length and keep your hair healthy. Also try changing how you see this journey, instead of saying your hair is 4 inches short say its 4 inches long and it will continue to get longer. Sometimes optimisim helps.

I'm not particulary in love with my hair right now and I have about 8 inches of hair but I stay optimistic about the future of my hair.

Keep your mind, body, and soul healthy.
It sounds like if your husband is suddenly having a problem with your appearance, the issue may be deeper than your hair.
I am so sorry that he said that to you. That would hurt me deeply if my hubby said such a thing to me.
Please do not try to make yourself look a certain way for anyone else but yourself.
Your hair is only going to grow as fast as it has always grown. Nothing truly speeds up the growth process.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. It sounds like a weave isn't a financial possibility, but what about hair accessories to enhance your look as your hair grows? Or even clothes accessories, to spruce up what you have for the short term if you're not 100% happy with your body appearance. (Congrats on losing 10 lbs. already, by the way!)

You are in a transition with your hair and your body, and that means there are changes you have to get accustomed to. As long as you keep up with your hair regimen and what you're doing to lose weight (and don't let personal doubts or comments from your significant other slow you down) you'll be fine. You may just have to figure out how to put a positive spin on your perceptions in the meantime.

I wish you the best!

im sorry but all of you keep telling her to take biotin vitamins and stuff but in actuality all she needs is a healthier diet filled with foods that will nourish the mind, body, and spirit and her hair lol And i hated my TWA when i first cut it i feel its quite normal to hate it. And your husband will come around honey like this is new for you this is new for him. Change is always different and sometimes scary. Plus its just hair and it will grow back tell him that. lol

Do what makes you happy. If you can't love yourself (as is) how can you love someone else. It's a new life experience. You gotta work with what you got. It's beautiful.

@milwaukeechick,

I'm still not sure what to write to you, but I wanted to share this link with you from BGLH Online:
http://bglhonline.com/2011/02/from-a-black-man-i-absolutely-love-my-woman’s-natural-hair/

I hope your husband has not been saying anything hurtful to you. On my end, I think being with a supportive spouse has helped me take better care of myself. I don't think our relationship would have grown the way it has if we had not both loved ourselves first.

Anyway, hope you have been feeling better lately. I'm all for health, but what is growing out of your head isn't as important as what's in it, and your heart is more important than the body it resides in.
