Just moved to this area. I haven't had a perm in over a year and I have about 2 inches perm left on the ends.
I went to a stylist here that knows how to do natural hair. I got my hair straightened, and needless to say she used marcel irons of all things! I'm used to ceramic irons when I want to wear my hair straight. She also used a wire brush and the pull and dry method to dry my hair. *blank stare* Shocked
I need someone that knows how to do natural hair in a healthy way and also twistouts. Please help!!! Most natural salons I've seen around here cost an arm and a leg. I'm thinking about getting a ceramic blow dryer and just start doing it at home myself. then just go for monthly trims....

Hey Khami3!
I'm not familiar with the Cleveland, OH area but I'm from Toledo, OH originally (about 2 1/2 hours away) and I know in Toledo there are not that many stylist that specialize in natural hair because there are not many natural young women or women in the area. So what I used to do is take care of my hair at home (washing, conditioning, treating, & styling) and then only go to the salon to get my ends trim. But I would wash, blow dry and straighten my hair myself and just have the beautician trim my ends (but I wouldn't let them wash my hair again or cut it wet I would get a "dry cut" I guess you could call it). I used to go to a shop called BoRics which was actually a "white" beatuy salon but the manager was african american and she cut my hair better than any other salon I had been to in my entire life! lol and I only paid about $12 for the cut & tipped her $5 or $8 on a good day! I found that if you find a salon that can cut your hair really good but maybe not style it so well that it's easier & cheaper to do the styling at home and just let them do the cutting. Hope this helps!

Hey Khami3 I'm from Cleveland, now I live in Cincinnati...there are a lot of natural stylists in Cleveland....go to a barber shop or local beauty shop and pick up a Horizon magazine....this is a free magazine that showcases all the beauty shops and vendors in the area...but you can only find them in the predominately black areas....try cleveland heights, shaker, and the Lee road area. Hope this helps!
