Adding H2O to Eco Styler Gel Empty Adding H2O to Eco Styler Gel

Post by mizcreativelyme 13th December 2010, 12:11 pm

Greetings Curlies! I've discovered that Eco Styler (olive oil) works better for me than KCCC and Aloe Vera gel. However, I don't really care for the crunchiness and white residue that gel can leave behind. So I decided to mix a large dollop of Eco and water to see what would happen [50:50 ratio]. The gel did not become runny or slimy. The results .... a much softer 'hold', no residue/minimal build-up, and defined texture/curls. Has anyone ever tried this?

I never added water to my gel but I did had some honey. I am transitioning and I was getting the frizzy top like crazy when I put my hair in a pony tail.. I think I added too much because the scarf stuck to my hair when I pulled it off.. But the frizzies were not as bad a b4.. Maybe also you can try adding aloe vera juice since its liquid like water..

Try Eco custard, it is thebomb.com! It is still in gel form but reduces the crunchiness and provides a highly defined, moisturized, soft hold with nice sheen. I use the recipe below but I do also add a little Aloe vera gel or juice.

where to buy - Sally's or most BSS
color - light green
why I prefer - it's performance and the addition/benefits of olive oil
cost - inexpensive (very large tub under $10 bucks)

Yep, the "olive oil" is the only difference in the performance of the clear gel and the light green gel. Both are maximum 10 hold and do their job well. The only difference in my opinion, and I have used them both, is that one has light green coloring added to it and at times the olive oil version is just a smidge more expensive. The clear is just fine for me, shoot... I can add my own olive oil. LOL! Smile

Oh ok, but I meant what's the diff between Eco Styler gel and any old other regulat gel? I have some Softee Clean & Clear gel that I actually got for my kids but I was just curious if there was a major diff since everyone on here (except for me - LOL) seems to have some!!! Very Happy

Oh I couldn't tell you that, I've never used Softee. Actually, I'm not too crazy about Eco Styler gels, I've purchased them lately because they were cheaper than my preferred gels: La Bella Maximum Hold and IC Fantasia Olive oil gel with Sparkle Lites. Eco is heavier in consistency and takes longer to dry in my wet hair even when I use it sparingly. But I'm sure some of the ingredients in all the brands mentioned are similar, at least for the most part. Do a google search for both of the products ingredients and compare or perhaps check out some reviews for the Softee gel.

I will try that because im experiencing some white residue with the olive oil one , @miskris so far i have tried 3 of them the olive oil one is basically clear gel with live oil added for shine and moisture , the black gel that i like the most so far is high in protein and has a strong hold , the krystal clear one has wheat protein in it and works great too , they are many different kind of ecostyler gels i like them because minus the residue they are alcohol free and provide a great hold etc for way less money than those offensively expensive gels Smile

Adding H2O to Eco Styler Gel Empty Re: Adding H2O to Eco Styler Gel

Post by misskris 13th December 2010, 2:56 pm

Hey. Ok, so FlySista, I checked the ingredients and the only things they have the same are the water, carbomer (the 1st 2 ingredients) and Polysorbate 20. Everything else is diff so I guess it does make a little diff.
@Creole, hey! The one I have does have that wheat protein in it like the one you mentioned and mine is clear as well. So I dunno, maybe I'll use mine to see what that does, and maybe just add some oil to it. Thanks ladies!! Very Happy

I've put my eco styler in a spray bottle with water and a few drops of avocado oil,my hair likes it.

I don't really use stylers or gels but when I so eco styler and UFD Curly Magic are at the top of my list. I've tried them both with water in a spray bottle and it works for me.

I'm kinda excited because I just got the OO Eco Styler yesterday for the first time. I'm happy because it worked as well as KCCC and I got a big tub for $5 at Sally's. Fraction of the cost, plus I don't have to drive out of my way to Whole Foods to get it.

I used it today for my WNG and I really like it. Plus, last nite, I did my little girl's twists and it looks just fab!! Great hold and shine.
