Also, I found this braid option was not as prone to frizz as the normal way to plait. When I plait, I usually put oil on my hands and rub my palms together or use JC Nourish and shine and remove the plaits. I did not have to do that with the scarf N braid.

The first several times, I cut strips from the satin scarves I already had.

BTW, I love your new avi

Thanks! You're right letting them completely dry is key, but I've found that because I tend to braid tightly I end up causing frizz when I'm trying to undo them--even with oil on my hands! I think I'm going to try out this scarf method as soon as I can get me hands on some satin that I'm willing to cut up.

CC Cutie, for me personally, I found being gentle with the takedown was crucial. Once, I can unravel opposite of when I plaited (if that makes any sense--keeping the 3 separate sections together is what I mean in the reverse direction) and with my JC nourish and Shine, the results are less prone to frizz on "regular"braidouts. I just did not have to be that careful with the scarf braidout.

Mrs. Sunshinz, I don't know if it is suppose to cut down on frizz, but for me, it did.

Kiana- good luck! Tell us how many braids you had.

that's what i'm hoping for with the scarf method. to not have to be so careful with the take down. most of the time i'm in a rush when i'm taking my hair down.

Ok ladies, I tried the first way posted, with 3 braids....I only had 1 satin strip scarf, so I cut it into 3, and I can tell I need BIGGER strips. I used some wrap/setting lotion, pink oil, and water. I tried to part them even, without creating the "part" line, but ended up having one side that was less thick, and you can tell in the wave pattern becuz they are smaller waves. So I'd say the thickness of the braid will also affect the waves you achieve as well as the thickness of the satin strip.

Here is a pic!

Your hair looks very nice Kiana. I washed today but couldn't do the style because I only have 1 wrap. Where are all the wraps when you want to buy them?

Ladies instead of cutting up existing satin scarves, another option would be to head to your local fabric shop and purchase a 1/2 yard [or so] of fabric. Just a thought. Idea

I'm ordering from Dharma. One yard of washable satin for 6.99. Better than buying a bunch of polyester scarves to cut up.

i would like to see a video tutorial of this done on natural hair to see what it would look like on my hair. has anyone seen 1?

And do you guys think this would work just as well on flat ironed natural hair??? It looks really pretty. I love the wavy look and switching up my style from kinky/coily, curly, wavy, straight, to coily again.

It elongated my hair. I really like the length that it gave me. I would do larger sections. I will post fluffed photos later today.

I was watching this video yesterday after finding it on Youtube. I will have to try this after I am done with my protective styling.

I get nice braidouts, but they always come out a little frizzy. I think it is because of my texture! scratch
