Nov 09 to Sep 10
I did not know where to post this so I figured since my hair has grown some then I will post it here. I started my natural hair journey FOR REAL THIS TIME back in November 2009. I took this picture outside. I could not believe that I forgot about these pictures. I took these at the start of my healthy hair journey to document how far I have come. I was experimenting with the TST but was frustrated at the time because they did not look like Rustic Beauty's twists. She was the first person I ran across on youtube when I went searching for natural hair. Again, these pictures are from November of 2009. My hair looks so dry and damaged. I do not have a routine so I do not know what I was doing to it during that time.

Here is my hair with a picture taken from September 2010. Some of you probably remember this picture. I think this was the Hawaiian Silky Twist-n-curl. It was dry in this pic and not greasy despite the sheen. I developed a routine in January of this year. I can tell a huge difference. All of this time I am thinking that my hair has not grown and looking at the pics I can actually tell a difference. TAKE THOSE PICTURES LADIES!

My Routine:
-Wash whenever I feel it needs it. There is no set time that I have to wash my hair. When it is dirty then I will know. Sometimes it will be more, sometimes it will be less. For me, it does not have to be once a week. That set day that I had to wash my hair when my hair was not ready to be washed dried it out despite adding moisture to it. I will cowash one week and shampoo the next.
-I massage my scalp like crazy. I think that scalp massage promote the blood flow to the scalp hence bringing more vitamins and minerals to your follicles therefore promoting healthy scalp, hair and growth.
-I left my hair alone. LEAVE IT ALONE! No finger twirling. Stop in the "hand in hair" syndrome. That was hard one day that I had that great twistout from the flaxseed gel. I was all up in my hair. I find that when I am frustrated with my hair, I try to do more to it. I manipulate it more. Just let it rest. Wash it, then style it, then leave it alone for a while.
-I moisturize alot more. I lightly spritz my hair with 1 part Garnier Sleek and Shine Leave-in to 25 parts distilled water. Then I put my hair sack on and go to bed. I just started this for winter since I am keeping my twist in until it gets warmer.
-I trim when necessary. Even though I had to cut about 2.5 inches this year and had plenty of search and destroys. I was cutting my hair because I thought it all had to be even. My hair is not an even growth type of hair. I was cutting off hair for no reason at all.
-I use henna regulary.
-I always condition after a shampoo.
-I do not comb or brush anymore.
My products:
-Conditioner
-Shampoo
-Henna
-oils
-aloe vera juice
-flaxseed gel
I may have actually gotten more than the average 6 inches per year since this was taken in September and I had to cut some off. I should have measured my length at the start

Hey DreamMerchant!!! WOW!! That's impressive!!! And I would say you probably DID get more than the 6". That's awesome!!!! That's what I am striving for.
Re: Nov 09 to Sep 10
I cannot believe how much my hair has changed from dry, brittle and damaged to soft, moisturized hair. Thank you for looking!

OH!! Worng song. I'm thinking about the Kia commercial with Michelle Wie (the Asian Golf player) and she has the little red Kia.
Re: Nov 09 to Sep 10
Got it! Let it play beyond the intro to get to the part that is sed in the commercial.
