Leave In Conditioners and DC
Hey Can you Naturals suggest any leave in conditioners and Deep conditioners that did wonders for your hair?
I have only used Cantu Leave In but would like to find another one that is really good for 4a/4b hair.

My hair is 4a/b, fine, porous and loves protein. I use and love the following Giovanni products: Smooth As Silk (SAS) Deeper Moisture Shampoo to poo, SAS Deeper Moisture Conditioner and Reconstructor to DC, SAS Xtreme Protein Infusion or Direct Leave In as my leave in.

Deep conditioners
Aubrey Organics Blue Green Algae Hair Rescue Conditioning Mask is the best deep treatment I have used. I use it at least once a month.

I use Aubrey Organics as a deep conditioner on dry hair before shampooing on my weekly wash days. White Camelia, Honeysuckle Rose & Island Naturals are the ones I use. White Camelia is my favorite. I also have the GPB which is a light protein/moisturizing conditioner.
Here's the link to the product matrix which allows you to select a product that suits your texture/concerns. Click on a conditioner and you will see the ingredients and the corresponding benefits.

I also use Burt's Bees Avocado Butter Pre Shampoo Hair Treatment which moisturizes and provides protein.

Until recently, I did not use a leave-in because I also used the Aubrey Organics Conditioners as rinse-out conditioners after my shampoos and they leave my hair soft, moist and manageable.
I have used the kimmaytube leave-in (mostly between shampoos)and it is a good moisturizer and has enough oil that I do not have to apply oil to seal. I sometimes will add just a touch of Jane Carter Solution Nourish & Shine to my ends.
Here's the link to the kimmaytube recipe.

Naturally Esq- I have a small bottle of the SAS poo I used one time and for some reason it felt very stripping moreso than moisturizing. Does it do your hair that way? I love the SAS Conditioner (went to TJ Max today and bought the 2 big bottles for $12.99), I used it as a DT w/ oils two days ago and I swear my hair had a sheen once I rinsed it out!Naturally Esq wrote:My hair is 4a/b, fine, porous and loves protein. Re: Leave In Conditioners and DC
I think I may have 4a/4b hair even though I'm transitioning (11 months in) and what I use for a leave in as mentioned above is the Kimmaytube leave in using Giovanni Direct Leave In. My DT has been either YTCuke or Giovanni SAS mixed with oils. After this last wash session I really like the SAS DT as I really saw a difference (not sure if it was the cold water rinse of the conditioner or what but I was happy with the results). Plus it's a great detangler (lots of slip).

No. SAS leave my hair so moist that I can detangle before I apply the SAS Conditioner. I apply the SAS shampoo diluted (3-4 squirts) in a applicator bottle. Have you tried using it diluted?
I have been stocking up on SAS at TJ Maxx, also. Both the shampoo and the conditioner leave my hair soft, moist and shiny.

Hmm...No I haven't tried it diluted but I will try that now to see if that helps because I have an entire bottle just sitting in the bathroom. Usually its hard to find the SAS at TJ Maxx because I think everyone gets it first then leaves the others (Tea Tree, Root Max). I found them though-hidden behind the other bottles!!!!Someone was probably trying to hide them to come back later, but oh well I messed up that plan Thanks for the tip!

Re: Leave In Conditioners and DC
I think you are correct about Tea Tree and Root Max. I am tempted to buy it all when I see SAS. I have to limit myself to just two bottles each of conditioner and shampoo, so that I can leave something for others.

Re: Leave In Conditioners and DC
@naturallyesq - I have heard that Giovanni is really good. I am planning on buying the leave in condish to try it out and see how it works. Will update on if my hair loves it or not.
@falcontress - that is a lot of information. Thank you so much. I have printed out everything and plan to do the research.
@yacoomba - what oils do you mix into the Giovanni?
Thank you for the responses. Great help.

I used a tablespoon castor oil, tablespoon grape seed oil, 2 teaspoons jojoba oil, 10 drops tea tree oil. and 5 drops peppermint oil. I use basically whatever oils I feel in the mood for each DT session ( I do mine weekly). Castor oil I have been using a lot more lately (the past month) since the weather has been changing up to cooler temps due to it's thickness and it really makes my natural hair soft. I also have Rosemary oil, olive oil, coconut oil, and almond oil too so really if you have some favorites you like or your hair responds well to you can use those. After I mix in the SAS or YTCukes I have my hair in four sections which I apply root to tip like the "relaxer method" , place my shower cap on, my turbie bonnet to extra heat and let it work for 30 minutes to an hour. Before I rinse I detangle my hair with my wide tooth comb (one section at a time). Rinsing with warm water initially then cold water for final rinse.

I know believe me=it's hard when you find a good product, but you're right...we must not be greedyNaturally Esq wrote:I think you are correct about Tea Tree and Root Max. Re: Leave In Conditioners and DC
Okay so here's an update: I did a pre-shampoo oil mix which included almond oil, avocado oil and grapeseed oil. I left it on for 2hrs. Then I shampooed with CD black vanilla shampoo. and then I conditioned with HE HH. Then I used Giovanni leave in which I have left in my hair with a showercap and scarf overnight. I am recording in a journal what I put in my hair. But as I read this I think maybe I tried too many things at once. Maybe I should have stuck to one product line. or maybe just one oil.
I guess I will continue to learn as I go.

Maybe I should have stuck to one product line
Not a requirement., a good product should perform its function without the other products in a line.
maybe just one oil
Also not a requirement, but using the oils one at a time will allow you to evaluate how your hair responds to it.
I think you did a good job, the only step I don't see is sealing. Perhaps someone who uses Giovanni Leave-in can tell you what to look for to determine if you need that step.
Don't forget to record what techniques and tools you use and how your hair looks and feels.

Re: Leave In Conditioners and DC
Falcontress hit IMO. You did great. Definitely don't get into sticking with a product line. I agree a product should perform on it's own and if it doesn't, the company should say it won't, so you're prepared. Nothing you used was something that was part of a regimen program.
I would have tried one oil as well.
How did you like the Black Vanilla Shampoo?
As for my favorite DC - Darcy's DC Mask. I did a review on this thread. You can check it out. Pricey, but I love, love, love it. I don't think I've ever seen anyone say they didn't.

Re: Leave In Conditioners and DC
@Renny - I am currently enjoying the black vanilla shampoo. I got it when I first BC. I only have to use a dime size to lather my hair. My hair doesn't feel dry and rough afterwards. It is made for people with dry, damaged hair. So I love it. I also have the black vanilla leave in conditioner spray but I don't like it. It does not hydrate my hair like it says it will. I don't like the feel of my hair after using it.
