Is re-twisting every night too much????

Post by rayray19 on 19th November 2010, 4:39 pm

so i re-twist my hair every night so my twist out can look nice and define, fluffy, and less flat in the morning and throughout the day

is this too much manipulation to my hair everynight?? I spray it lightly with water, apply my leave in, seal with oil, and apply my moisturizer (qhemet AOHC) every time i re-twist them to prevent my hair from drying out in this weather..

I re-twist every night & I have not experienced any problems. I think the amount of manipulation that hair can stand depends on the individual. Applying product every night will cause you to need to co-wash/shampoo more often but that's about it.

I retwist or braid regularly myself. I just don't sleep cute. I look like a bad episode of good times when I don't re-... LOL! Anyway, I think as long as you don't experience any breakage as a result you should be good.

I don't think it's too much either. I sometimes retwist those that looks like who done it and why - LOL! ..But, I really don't re-twist the entire head. It takes my about 2 hrs. I usually save that for the weekends and refresh during the week. As long as my hair stays moist and I use the Eco gel w/oo I usually don't have to bother them too much. HTH Smile

Hey Ray!!!! Do you have to use the Qhemets every night? Because its too heavy for everyday application for me. Was wondering if you find that also?

I retwist everynight and pin it down with bobby pins before tying a scarf. I probably wouldn't have to do that if I made smaller twist though.

@Bcandy - It doesn't take any longer than it would take to put rollers in my hair. LOL.

I re-twist every night but the twists are very loose and I only do 4 to 6. I have no problems of breakage.

I also retwist once I get home and know that I'm not heading anywhere. But in total I only do about 10 twists and then do a french braid.
I just don'T like leaving my hair open for too long and I know it's much easier for me when I always twist my hair because I have less single strand knots

Hey Ray ray,

I don't think it should cause a problem since you are moisturizing your hair each night. When I was still in the twa stage I retwisted my hair each night until it grew out and I was able to leave my twists in a little longer.

I agree with akaprincess's statement that it depends on the individual's hair strands. Some people have hair which cannot take the daily manipulation but if you haven't experienced any problems with your hair and your're keeping it moisturized keep doing what's working.

I moisturize and re-braid my hair every night too and have recently begun to question whether this is too much manipulation. Sometimes I think it is. I do tend to lose some hair each night, even though I am very gentle, but it seems to happen more when my hair dries out during the day. I am using a better moisturizer now so I am not losing as much hair but still..... I wish I could really get into protective styling.

Yeah, I'd think that if you're careful and you know your hair, it should be ok. But is it too much? Heck yeah--too much time! I admire the dedication you all have; I'm generally a pineappler, mainly due to time!
