Hair growth: Front vs. Back
I co-washed my hair today. I noticed after I detangled it and combed it down, my hair in the front is shorter than the back. When I BC my hair was just about even all around. It seems like the hair in the back is growing quicker than the front. Why is that???? Do you think it's from headbands? I don't do much manipulation to my hair as it is. What can I do to help the growth in the front? And is anyone else experiencing the same thing??

Our hair doesnt grow even. My hair in the crown/back grows faster than the rest of my hair.
With being said, I would suggest you be careful when wearing headbands a lot. Especially the elastic ones.

yea I figured that. I use a dress socks for headbands lol. That's what I have in my hair in the box.

Re: Hair growth: Front vs. Back
LOL, yeah it doesn't grow even. My right side grows longer and my left side is all jacked up, lol.
Re: Hair growth: Front vs. Back
Yeah my hair definitely doesnt grow evenly, but I know some of that has to do with the different curl patterns I have throughout my head. I have very loose, wavy curls around my edges which hang more than the tightly coiled hair in the middle of my head therefore it seems as though the hair in the back is long than that in the middle. I measure my hair once a month, once I stretch it and measure it I realize that my hair all over my head is about 8 inches.

Yeah i would also say that the hair does'nt grow evently.
On my back my hair is shoulder length, and it's a little bit shorter in the front.

Re: Hair growth: Front vs. Back
Hmm, I'm new/transitioning, not for very long...but I know that my hair has never been perfectly even all around it seems. I think my front is about three inches below my chin. The back is shorter than the front right now, probably from all the manipulating with twists/dreads/clip-in installations, but the front is always longer.

Me too. I have come to terms that the front of my hair will always be playing catch up with the back. I have been taking really good care of my hair since the start of my transition .... and still the back is thriving with NG and the front isn't nearly as long.

Re: Hair growth: Front vs. Back
hair is supposed to grow about 6 inches in a year. i just made a year fully natural in October - started out with a ceaser... and now a year later, i have aboit 5-6 inches on top and 1 in the back, literally.
so i guess hair really doesn't grow even, or maybe the back of my hair is in the resting phase.
it's actually pissing me off, but i'll be patient!

Re: Hair growth: Front vs. Back
My hair grows super uneven. It's grows fast on the side and the back, but grows really slow in the front. I stopped wearing headband and is seemed to work.
Also, the rest of my head is relaxer ends free, but the front still has the end because I wouldn't be able to pull into a pony puff otherwise, LOL.

Re: Hair growth: Front vs. Back
our hair dosent grow even. different areas of your head can be in different stages. one spot can be in the growth phase and the other resting(no growth). i examine my fallen hairs to see if its broken (no bulb) or shedded( bulb). with that being said be careful with wear headbands alot

Re: Hair growth: Front vs. Back
To echo everyone else, my hair grows the fastest in the back (closer to my bra strap), especially the nape and faster on my right side. Its over 1" longer on my right. I've given up cutting my hair to make it even.

Ditto for me! My crown grows much faster than the rest of my hair. I embrace it and make it work for my styles though.
Re: Hair growth: Front vs. Back

Re: Hair growth: Front vs. Back
Mines in the back grows a little bit faster, but the whole back of my head is 3c, the rest is 4a, and the sides are 4b so I don't do wash n gos because it this, lol... but its mostly the same length but the difference of the textures make the lengths look extremely different. I don't mind the back growing faster and longer, it makes my twist outs look fuller.
