Dry ends Empty Dry ends

How do I keep my ends moisturized? I wash and dc once a week and cowash in between. I also put olive oil on each time. Yet every time I wear an afro puff my ends are dry and hard and I get breakage. What could I do?

What is your routine?

What products are you using under the olive oil (EVOO)?

You could baggy your hair at night by dampening it a bit with water, applying moisturizer then oil. Put on a plastic cap and your satin bonnet. In the morning, your hair should have soaked up the moisture. If not, you can rinse it & reapply moisture and reseal with oil or butter.

Your hair may not like EVOO. Have you tried to seal with other oils and/or butter?

Your answers can help us help you better.

I use HH shampoo and jessicurl dc on sat or sun then on wed I cowash with HH on both days I use the olive oil and sometimes in between. I have tried shea butter. I liked it but when I ran out I just switched to the olive oil thinking it would be the same. It was fine for a while but this past week I hated the look and feel of my hair. Now I am wearing a french braid to try to protect the ends. The plastic cap sounds hot, its like 80 degrees here at night. can I sit with it at night and take it off for bed?

On top of my leave-in conditioner use a mixture of shea butter and coconut oil, olive oil, and sometimes castor oil on the length of my hair and my ends. This mixtures keeps my hair moisturized (and shiny!) for about three days w/out reapplication.

When I do use a plastic cap I don't put it over my whole head. I put my hair is a loose ponytail and put the plastic cap on that.

I use the "kimmaytube leave-in conditioner". If you do a search for it there's a thread on this site that talks all abou it. Its a mixture of Kinky Curly Knot Today (or some people use Giovanni Direct Leave In), aloe vera juice, castor oil, and jojoba oil.
