Question I had for Frizz Curls: About the facial cleasing oil method- I did it for the first time last night-loved it- but this morning I was stumped as to what level of mosturizer would be good to use. Obviously with my oily skin I have been through ups and downs and the cold weather here in the midwest is no joke with the winds. What would you suggest? I have read simple aloe vera, or just a basic sunscreen. Just looking for suggestions. -*Thank You*-

Hi Sunni J! Thanks for stopping through Smile First, I'm so happy that you loved your results! U have beautiful skin by the way! I think that a moisturizer specifically for oily skin that has an SPF of 30 would do the job. Since you live in the midwest and it is windy I suggest a moisturizer that will protect your skin from the elements but at the same time won't be too moisturizing since your skin is oily and I have read that those who have an oily skin type can go without moisturizer because of this (that is one of the advantages of having oily skin). Aloe vera gel may work better in the summer months but you could also try that as a cheaper alternative. I suggest that you always begin with a moisturizer (with sunscreen) that caters to your skin type first and foremost and see how your skin reacts ie. does it appear dry or as the day wears on does your face look shiny...Dryness would indicate that you need something with a little more moisture and a shiny face of course means that it may be too moisturizing. My experience as far as SPFs in moisturizers has been that the higher the SPF the more moisturizing so just be aware of this as it may or may not apply to you but it has been my observation. Hope that helps Smile If you need more information let me know Smile

Hi Frizzcurls! I'd like to know a product suggestions from you that has hold and definition for curls, but moreso hold. The shrinkage in my hair is ridiculous and sometimes I just wish they'd drop more and stay curly instead of just frizzing up and shrinking after my hair dries.

Hey Miss D-Lish! Kinky Kurly Curling Custard and Kinky Kurly Knot Today was a perfect combo for ME as far as achieving hold and definition...The hold was perfect BUT from my experience I was a little too heavy handed so it caused my hair to be crunchy...I would say give it a try but be mindful that it is very concentrated and you don't need to load your hair up with it as it is known for causing some of the white residue if you do. I suggest using both products together. Apply the Knot Today first then layer it with the Kinky Curly and be sure to apply them evenly from roots to ends. I have also achieved great success with Paul Mitchell The Conditioner and Eco Styler olive oil styling gel. PM the Conditioner is moisturizing for me and the Eco gel is moreso for hold. I did a washngo with these two and got better results than the Kinky Kurly but explore your options! That's the fun part! Just a little suggestion: Before trying a product clarify your hair if you feel that you may have some other product residue or you just want to make a fresh start and achieve the full benefits from your new products because I notice when I do this they work better because my hair is clean and not coated with previous stylers and such or if you don't use alot of products with cones just do a really thorough co-wash. So ultimately, it's not just about the products but moreso whether your hair is starting off with a clean slate prior to application that really will make the difference...I know this is more than you asked me but I want to try to be helpful as possible and give you helpful tidbits Smile Please drop back in and let me know how this worked and we can go from there and I can suggest something else if you like. Thanks for stoppin' by Smile

Hello Frizzcurls!
I've used a product called Deep Cleansing Oil by DHC, and it is great! After reading your post about oil cleansing, I thought back to this product and how good it was. I love their olive virgin oil! It's a great moisturizer. Here's their website http://www.dhccare.com

Hi frizzcurls!
Just viewed your fotki, love your hair, it's beautiful! I am planning on BCing next month and I think my length will be about where your was on your BC pic's. I am so inspired by your pics, to see where i will be starting and where i am going. How long did you wait before you henned after your BC and what suggestions do you have, if any, that can help me in the early process after BCing?

Okay I am going to try your method of styling your wet hair. Now when you are rinsing out your conditioner do you then take out your twists or do you take out your twists after you have rinsed but before you apply product? And if you take the twist out while rinsing ( I am assuming you are in the shower) how do you prevent the wave/curl pattern from getting disturbed?

Hi Cococurly Smile Love your pic! Thanks for the compliments...I didn't wait very long to start henna...I believe it was about 8-10 months after I bc'd that I started using henna...I love the Jamila Brand that can be purchased on Mehandi.com My suggestions for you would be not to get too overwhelmed with trying so many different products...Keep it simple and just learn as you go by experimenting a little bit and gradually learn what your hair needs and likes...If you want to just conditioner wash and then leave in the conditioner that would be perfect as you don't want to dry your hair out with too much shampooing if you even shampoo at all...I have seen many fotkis where women have used this routine and achieve beautiful, healthy, defined curls...I don't know how short you will be going but what you do to your hair depends greatly on the length when you bc...Will you be cutting your hair shorter than 2 inches or will you have enough length for a ponytail?

Jad928, thanks for stopping through Smile I style while in the shower and I do many things simultaneously...I stand under the shower head with conditioner coated twits and then I take each section out while the water is rinsing my hair...After the water has been rinsed out of the twist/twists I am working on at the time I then apply products to that section of hair and then I continue to do my whole head Smile I don't do anything special to prevent disturbing the wave pattern besides smoothing not raking my products in which is taking a section of hair and in a downward motion I smooth down the hair shaft...Let me know if you do/do not understand. I also don't touch my hair while it is wet which aids in

NubieNAttyTwn-kisha!! Hi beautiful with your lovely twa!! Congrats! Unfortunately many products don't mix well together especially moisturizers and most gels :/ I say stick with the basics for your twa like coconut oil (if your hair likes oils) or shea butter (let it melt in your hands first then apply to your hair)...I wanted to start off with the most accessible products that you can get at all health food stores or the health food section of most grocery stores...If you don't mind ordering I have heard many great reviews on Jessicurl Weekly Deep Treatment, Curljunkie's honey butta leave in and coffe coco curl creme are very moisturizing (I've used both for my twists), Blended Beauty Happy Nappy Styles is an excellent moisturizer (just be careful when your hair gets longer as it is so moisturizing your hair shrinks tremendously)...If you want to go really cheap...I say try Herbal Essences conditioners (the ones that mention hyration or moisturization on the labels) because these are very good for moisture!! Now that my hair is longer and more dense leaving regular conditioner in causes my hair to take a lifetime to dry so I recommend it for shorter styles as your drying time usually is quicker! Hope that helps and let me know your outcome or if you need more detailed info like where to purchase the products.

HELLO FRIZZCURLS427,
I JUST WANT TO SAY, I SAW YOUR FORTKI. Your hair is beautiful and so are you. I hope my big chop will be as nice. My husband gave me to ok to do it now. But I do not know if my features could carry off a TWA. So I will wait until June 2010. Hopefully I will have a puff ponytail by then.

Hello again Frizzcurl,
In response to your question, when I BC my hair will be about 2 inches if that. Thanks for the recommendation of not experimenting with different products, because I have become a product junkies already. I have like 10 different condish's under my cabinet now. I will try to control myself. I plan to co-wash ~ 2X/wk and maybe shampoo monthly, is that too much and how long should I stick with the same condish and leave in condish, before trying a different one? If my hair likes them, should I just stick with them and not change? Any recommendations are appreciated [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] Thanks Again!!

Hi Intelligentbeauty! Smile Let me tell you straight up...Before I decided to BC I had as many complexes as you could possibly think of...First, I just had a baby 8 months prior so I was dealing with excess weight issues, second I was always teased for having a big head, round face, big forehead and the list goes on...I said to my self forget what others think or say. I'm not going to let that hinder me from doing something I want to do which was see myself with short hair for a change and reveal my natural texture...I thought yeah I have a round face, big forehead yada yada...So what!! Come to find out my head wasn't shaped the way I thought it was when my hair was longer...I actually have a little head but I have a big face...lol Anyway, just wanted to share my experience in hopes that it will help you think about things a little more openly as far as your options are concerned since you mentioned you didn't know if your features could carry off a twa. I was actually very pleased when I did it and many others were surprised as well to see that things weren't as bad as they thought they were:) Not trying to tell you what to do at all...Just some food for thought Wink If you feel more comfortable waiting by all means wait and do what you think is best for you but I just don't think that you should totally rule out the twa just because you THINK(not yelling; just placing emphasis) you don't have the features...I don't see what you see...I see a beautiful young woman of color and that's exactly what you will be whether you bc or not...Keep me posted and share pics when you bc!

Hi again Cococurly! Let me point out that I don't think there is anything totally wrong with experimenting with different products as it can be fun and rewarding Smile especially when we find something that works but I just think that it can become overwhelming when we don't take our time and pace ourselves and I think we should first just learn to accept the texture we have and move on from there...So I just didn't want to make is seem like I was trying to take all the fun and excitement away from it Wink I think co-washing 2x/week is perfect but just "listen" to your hair...If it looks fine and feels soft and moisturized yet strong I say stick to what you are doing until you see a change for the worse which may or may not happen...Stick with the same conditioner or leave in as long as you feel like it...What matters is that the product is working for your hair...I know alot of people feel that we should change up our products every now and then bc they say they don't work after a while...That could be a result of many different things like product build up...My theory is go with what works and if you see a change then try something else.

Wow, thanks so much for sharing your experience with me. I have never had short hair before and my husband is like "do it so you can experience it and before I change my mind..lol" This is coming from a man that flipped when I told him I wanted to go natural almost 8 months ago. So this is a big step for him AND ME. So now my question is when did you BC in the winter or summer? and what would you think the advantages/disadvantages are for both?
