Flat Iron/Straighten Hair
Wish me luck curlies, I'm going to go at it myself. The last time this was done was July 23, 2009 in the salon. Any words of wisdom. I have a heat protectant to put on my hair before blow drying.

Nothing Lynnieluve, lol
I shampooed and conditioned with Tingling Tea Tree
Detangled with GF Sleek and Shine Leave-In and used Kenra Straightening Serum.
Just getting ready to blow dry, I'll keep you posted.

BE CAREFUL!! I straightened my hair a few times in the summer and my once beautiful hair is currently suffering from heat damage [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] ! Don't straighten often and condition, condition, condition for weeks after! Good luck [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Re: Flat Iron/Straighten Hair
Thanks nikkinixnicole, I tried to be careful and won't do it too often. I'm exhausted. It took way too long, just 10 minutes shy of 4 hours.

Re: Flat Iron/Straighten Hair
Girl, please excuse my round face, I've got to get serious about working out.
I could normally make it last 2 weeks, I just wrap every night. No more heat is required, but if I do the right thing and work out, maybe I will try to make it last at least a week.

Your face looks pretty to me. I need to get motivated again with working out. I usually go 4 days a week but this week I've only been twice. Hopefully I get to go after hubby gets off of work. I am 6 pounds shy of my goal. I dont want to throw all of that hard work out of the window being so close to my goal.

Re: Flat Iron/Straighten Hair
You are doing great Lynnieluve!! Keep up the good work. Last year I was preparing for my wedding and wanted to have a beach body as well as fit in my dress. We've both gotten slack, but we're going to do better. I pass my elliptical everyday, dusty, lol. My hubby bought me a Wii and Wii Fit and he's used it more than me. I'm going to make at least a conscious effort to do something soon.

Check out the Health and Fitness section of this forum. Weekly challenges are post. Last week was 100 jumping jacks each day. This week (which start today...on Fridays) we are increasing our vegetable intake.

Re: Flat Iron/Straighten Hair
Your hair came out so nice! Where do you live? I live in new orleans and the humidity down here would make it insane to try and flat iron in the summer

Re: Flat Iron/Straighten Hair
What is a good heat protectant? I don't plan on straightening anytime soon, but I probably will in the future, so what do you guys recommend?
Re: Flat Iron/Straighten Hair
To be honest, the best protectant against heat is avoiding it (or try to minimize it as much as possible). I'm currently suffering some heat damage, despite using protectants on my hair when I straightened it [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] . Also, avoid using extra high heat and avoid using oils on the hair to straighten (i heard that this basically fries the hair).
Again, despite using protectants on my hair, here's a list of the mistakes I made:
(This could be different for other people, I'm just sharing my mistakes)
- added thick petroleum-based oils throughout my hair prior to straightening it [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
- used 400 degree flat iron [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
- straightened quite often (throughout the spring AND summer) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
- didn't deep condition as often as I should've [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Learn from my mistakes grasshoppers LOL
Thanks to these curlynikki forums, I've learned so much about hair care and I will never make these mistakes again [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Re: Flat Iron/Straighten Hair
Yeah, I've been staying away from heat, but I do think eventually I'll want to straighten it for something. Thanks for the tip on the oils.
I'm still transitioning, but I DC once a week, I plan to continue doing that even after all of the permed ends are gone because my hair is doing so well with it. I may have to change the products (but I doubt it), but I won't change the routine Thanks for the advice
