I have yet to see the movie "Precious" but I said I will be going to see it this weekend. I did however purchase the book Wednesday and I read it in it's entirety last night and I was out done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I never read something so good but yet so dark and twisted before. It is a definite must read, but for those of you who have yet to read it. Reading the book is not like reading the newspaper or a magazine, or a business letter. I don't wanna give it a way but as you read the book you enter the mind of "Precious", literally! It's at "Borders" for $13.00 and if your a Borders's Reward Member it's $10 and some change.

I read it last month and it was one of the deepest books I've read in a long time. It was very good and I want to see the movie when it comes out (I think tomorrow for VA).

@pwatem and sweetdrk1,,, I know that book was beyond what I expected. I'm not even sure I will be able to handle seeing the movie if it was anything like the book...Oh my God it was soooooooo sad. Yet there are children all over the world living in that terror everyday!!!!!!

I finished it about a week ago. That was a really tough read! I had to put it down several times during the really graphic parts. I still need to go and see the movie, but I've heard great things about it. Can't wait!

I haven't read this yet (not sure if I will) but the way it is spreading like wildfire reminds me of a book I KNOOW everyone has read... The Coldest Winter Ever by Sista Soldja??? The way everyone is reading it and passing it on makes me think of that for some reason... It's like Coldest Winter Ever but for adults lol.

I've read the book, the movie isnt as dark as the book. In my opinion, it doesnt do the book justice. I think there was too much hype around the movie. I didnt even cry, but I cried my butt off reading that book.

I went to see the movie during the Thanksgiving break and it was PG compared to the book. I'm glad I read the book first before seeing the movie. My teenage niece wanted to go see it so I took her. But I think it was a waste of my money lol. Because the movie didn't come close to the book at all in my opinion.

I read the book when it first came out and finally went to see the movie over the weekend. The book is definately deeper and more graphic than the movie but I think that the movie isn't all bad... If the movie followed the book exactly it couldn't be in mainstream theaters. I think the movie skirted close enough to the book to where you can actually show children (13+ IMO) and have a discussion without it being too much. I realize said children are probably exposed to much more in their real lives but isn't that the problem these days?...

The books are always better than the movies. I saw the movie and i dont know if i can take the book. My coworker told me today that she bought the novel push and that i can read it after her.I just dont know so sad. I read the coldest winter ever, kept waiting for it to be a movie but it wont touch the book.

I have to agree with some of the comments, I saw the movie first and if it's PG compared to the book I don't know if I can take it. I left the theater with my mind and heart so heavy and I didn't like the ending of the movie...so maybe I should just buckle down and read it!

@Symmetry,,,the movie just didn't compare to the book and you will come to understand what I mean after reading it. Brace yourself! It is a read unlike anything I have come in contact with, literally!

Was her mother molesting her? I saw the movie and I was trying to figure it out because she was like "precious come here and take care of mommy" and I everyone in the theater was like "uuuuuuh..huh?" I think no one wanted to belive that , but was she?

I just finished the book today and in the book, YES!! She was molesting the daughter and having the daughter perform oral on her. That book is really deep. I have a real hard time wrapping my mind around that fact that this is real. There are children that have to deal with this type of abuse everyday and at a very young age. It's horrible.

oh wow... I agree with you its very hard to wrap your mind around what she went through and what so many young children like her haveto go through... thats probably why everyone's response was to not want to believe what they thought her mother was asking when she told her to "take care of mommy"....

@BlondeByDesire..is it due to the language or just the story itself? As hard as it was, I read it in one night.

due to the language - it was really getting on my nerves and the daydreams ...

I'm finished now, overall a good book, but I didn't like the ending ... I wanted to know more, did she get her GED, go to college, get her own place, get Mongo back, etc.

I too bought and read it. I loved it and hated it. It was very hard for me to imagine a child going through so much. I have yet to see the movie.

I lent it to a coworker and they returned it to me, couldn't get past the first couple pages. Sigh....

I felt the same way. I felt that there was no true ending in the book because there were so many questions left unanswered.

By contrast, the movie had an ending and the acting was really good. It's a hard story to tell.

Good book and movie.
