Dry hair! Empty Dry hair!

Post by Natural-E 14th November 2010, 5:30 pm

Hi Autumn!
My issue is dry hair! I use almost exclusively natural products (Giovanni Direct, castor oil, aloe vera gel, jojoba oil, unrefined shea butter). When I wash my hair (once a week) I deep condition the night before with honey and olive oil (hair is twisted with this then i put a plastic cap, scarf, and bonnet on for heat). I condition wash my hair the next day with Bioinfusion Rosemary Mint Condition (i love it, it makes detangling super easy and leaves my hair soft). I retwist my hair with the conditioner then wash it out with twists in tact. The last step is to spray my hair with a mix of Giovanni Direct and water, then twist it again with aloe and castor oil. My hair seems to soak up whatever I put in it in no time and then i'm left with dry, brittle hair. Any suggestions??? Oh, I have very thick, kinky hair, and it's about collar bone length now.

It might be the Giovanni Direct. It makes my hair hard and brittle. I think it's the protein in it. No matter how I try to use it, it just doesn't work. I would recommend Alba Botanica Leave In. Typically, after washing, I will apply a small amount of coconut oil, then use the Alba Botanica and then seal all of the goodness in with castor oil. My hair is the softest it's EVER been.

My daughter has super coily, dry hair, and the only thing I've used that's worked for her, is the coconut oil, the alba botanica, Softee conditioning gel with olive oil that I got from Walmart, and seal in all the goodness with olive oil. The key for her hair is glycerin based products. I'm not concerned about using them in the winter time especially since I'm sealing with olive oil.

I know you mentioned that you are using natural products, and the Alba Botanica has a GREAT ingredient list. The Softee Conditioning Gel ingredients are not all natural but they are pretty good for a commercial product.

Hope this helps...

I know that Most of the users avoid to use olive oil. Even I have also used coconut oil instead of olive oil last two days. I feel some changes on my hair than soon.

I agree with exhale I had some of the Giovanni product & give them away because of the protein in the I did keep the 50:50 balanced conditioner but I add alot of oils to it & it seems to help Maybe you can try adding different oils to it I also have thick hair as well & have been spraying my hair 2x nightly to help w/dryness so that is also something you could do as well
