My Daughter
Hi guys,
I know this may not be the right place for this post but I could really use some of you guys input. My 4 year old has had a problem similar to ringworm of the scalp and was given some medicated shampoo and an oral medication in March. As of the summer it had cleared but now I see that something else is going on. She has some little white patches in her scalp and her hair is coming out from the root in the front. I had been using some of the oils I use in my hair and had been trying to keep the same regimen I use. Previously, an older lady had told me to grease her scalp with olive oil and vasline mixture. I didn't want to go back to this but I don't know what to do now. I am really afraid that she is going to loose her hair across the front.

Oh man! Sorry that you guys have to go thru that. You should take her back to the doctor maybe. What have you done differently lately?

Wow, so sorry your baby girl is going through this. I agree... take her back to the doc. It could be a reaction to the meds or the shampoo...

Re: My Daughter
I had that when I was younger. My mom used milk for me everyday until it was gone. Make sure you take her to the doctor so no nothing else gets infected and use what they give you. My mom said that pus will come out and today I am still having problems with my hair in the middle of my head. You just made me realize one of the problems why my hair grows slowly on the top of my head. I would always blame perms but now that is the problem as well. Make sure to you medicine and milk everyday and everything should be ok. If she ends up like me, the hair will grow back but it will be a little thin. I have thick hair anyway so it is hard to tell but it will grow back just slowly but then again she may be different and it may grow back just the way it was. I hope this helps as well.
Re: My Daughter
I don't know if you can tell on my profile pic but I am doing ok with that middle spot now. It just grows slowly.

Tea tree oil is supposed to be a really good antifungal.

You're right! I was thinking of adding this but opted to mention return to the doc just in case...
Tea tree oil works great at fixing (me and baby girl's) scalp issues. If we get an "itch", I'll reach for some TTO. If I don't feel like pooing or co-washing our hair (for weeks), then I'll simply "refresh" our scalps with TTO.

Thanks! Sometimes it seems like it's a full time job keeping our hair healthy, but it's worth it!

@ Peach - Definitely a good idea to see the Dr first, though. That's what I'd do.

Hi Ladies
Thanks for the all of your guys input. I have called the doctor and she wants me to start the medicated shampoo and and oral medicine they were giving her in March. I trust her doctor to the fullest but I wanted to try someting natural.
I think I am going to stick with the medication for a while but am going to try the TTO also.

Re: My Daughter
Ringworm is so difficult to treat. My son had it once and it kept coming back and then my daughter got it and she had knots on her scalp and she lost a large patch of hair. Continue with the medication and make sure that you sanitize her pillowcases and anything else her head touches. If she puts her head on the carpet you may want to clean that too. I'm sorry that she has to go through this--keep us updated.
Re: My Daughter
Henna, tea tree oil and neem all have incredible anti-fungal properties. Try washing her hair daily with diluted tea tree oil or putting a neem paste on the infected area.
