Re: DElise's Hair
Ok, so after a lot of lurking and talking to friends, I decided to revisit my hair journal.
So basically, I got my first relaxer when I was about 8 or 9, and for the most part I never really experienced horrible side effects of relaxers. I went to the same hair stylist who made sure I didn't get relaxers too often and she made sure I didn't experience heat damage. When i went away to college I had to find new stylists...I experimented like any normal person, cut my hair, colored it, etc. I may have run into a few issues with overprocessing and breakage, but since I wasn't afraid to cut my hair that usually wasn't an issue...my hair would bounce right back and I would have my same length soon enough.
Eventually I got annoyed with all hairstylists in Atlanta b/c the cost was exorbitant and i felt they were not respectful of my time...so I decided I would go natural. After about 6 months, in April 2005 I chopped all my hair off. I received a lot of negativity from the men in my family but they came around eventually. I wore my hair short until about October of that same year and finally let it grow. I got really bored with my styling options so I started to get color.
Fast forward to 2008, I relaxed my hair again due to a straight styling mishap. I wore a cute bob and finally did the big chop again in September 2009...maybe for good, who know.
So I decided to keep a hair journal b/c my friends seem to think i do a good job of styling my hair...and I get a lot of compliments. So I think this journal will serve as a resource for my friends and me as will so I can keep track of my hair growth. I look forward to chatting with you all!

Re: DElise's Hair
I would like my first official post to be about transitioning...a lot of people that I don't know approach me in public and they are usually "transitioning" and ask me for advice. I don't have super long hair...as you can see in my avatar, so I'm not sure why I'm constantly approached, but I appreciate the advice
The first thing I would like to point out, is as a transitioner you have to decide how you are going to wear your hair naturally. Are you going to get it pressed every week or do you plane to wear your natural curls? If you're going to wear it pressed close to 100% of the time you won't have many issues. However, if you plan to wear your natural curls I really encourage you to experiment with styles that do not involve heat. Heat can be very damaging and permanently straighten your beautiful curls! There are a number of styles you can experiment with, I will include a few below
Curlformers
Bantu Knot-Out

Re: DElise's Hair
Yess I'm finally home from work!!! Thank you all for the wonderful compliments! You all have hair that looks absolutely amazing and I look forward to learning from all of you!
Today was a typical hair day. I almost always wear a puff...I want to experiment b/c my edges are not happy about the constant puff. It's actually very lazy of me b/c it doesn't require any styling...just pulling my hair back. Even when I style my hair I end up pulling it back, for some reason I just think it looks better. I was really inspired by nmoultry's rod sets so I'm going to experiment with those this week! I'm really looking forward to it.
Do any of you all use curlformers? I had a lot of issues getting my curls to last past the first day...do you all have any tips?
Thanks!
