The castor oil that I use i mix with my shampoo and conditioner when I shampoo my hair. It works wonders for Moisture. As for growing that I know have worked wonders for my hair is Mega Tek Rebuilder. It is for horses, but my edges are thick now from using that product. Link below:

My hair grew leaps and bounds b/c of castor oil. I add it to my shea mix. I feel comfortable in staying that my hair wouldn't be as thick, soft, and healthy is castor oil wasn't part of my regime. I purchase mine from iherb.com

Re: Castor oil and edges
I'm not sure if castor oil helps with growth, but it may indirectly help with length retention due to it moisturizing capabilities. Since dry hair tends to split and break off much easier than well moisturized hair, CO could help with length retention with regular use. CO tends to be sticky, so I have to be careful with the way I apply it to my fine strands. It's great for moisture and glossy shine! ...But don't go crazy though, or you'll like the Soul Glow family from Coming to America! LOL!

Re: Castor oil and edges
I started using JBCO a few months ago..and my hair has def gotten longer!! I don't know if it is just b/c of the castor oil..or the fact that I actually just started takin care of my hair..but I usually apply after a co- or poo-wash using my applicator found here. As far as edge growth, i think its helped but I'm not sure I didn't document it well.

@ gammainme-- I do apply it to my whole wet head! Only my scalp though-- its easy with the applicator bottle, and it also helps to control the amount that is deposited.

Re: Castor oil and edges
Hello Ladies,
I started using JBCO as part of a growth challenge on another site. I've been using since August and I absolutely love the results. My hair is so much thicker and softer. I use it on my scalp and ends about 3-4 times a week. I also incorporate with my DC or pre-poo treatment. JBCO has quickly become one of my favorite products. I’m not sure about regular castor oil but JBCO is the truth!! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
@msqueenie - I purchased my first 8oz bottle (which I am still using) from www.samsclub.com. The I saw a great deal on Jamaicanblackcastoroil.com and purchased 4 more bottles. Both sites shipped very fast.

Hey Ms. Queenie I purchased my JBCO at a beauty store in NY..they are all over the place there. But otherwise I co-sign on the above recommended sites if you don't mind paying shipping fees!!

Re: Castor oil and edges
If you can find JBCO or anything else you're looking for at amazon, and they sell it directly to you without making you go through a third party, you can eliminate shipping costs if your total order is $25 or more. It allows you to stock up on things of which you use a lot. That's how I bought henna the last time I shopped for it.

It does have a very distinct smell (kinda smoky) but it doesn't bother me. Some people mix it with other oil like lavender or peppermint to mask the smell.

Re: Castor oil and edges
I have been on a three month challenge (Oct, Nov, Dec) using Jamaican Black Castor Oil and I must say my hair is thicker and it is definitely growing. The texture even looks different, in a good way. The smell is not that bad, but you can add essential oils if you need to. A little goes a long way. I put it in an applicator bottle and use it on my scalp, edges, then after I moisturize my hair I seal the ends with it. JBCO will definitely be one of my staple items.
