The Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan
I originally planned to read Food Rules. Well, that book is really just a book of rules so I decided to further investigate where he got his information and let me say I've gotten way more than I bargained for. Firstly, The Omnivore's Dilemma is no light reading. I borrowed the hardcover version from the library and it's a whopping 450 pages including the extensive index. I'm not even halfway through it and I can tell my whole outlook on eating and purchasing food is about to change. The book explains the history of our current industrial food system. I thought I understood where my food came from but this is seriously having me re-think the terms natural, organic and free-range. Check it out if you're interested.

I think that if many people actually paid attention to some of the stuff they ate, they would be soooo grossed out!

hmm, sounds like the jungle; by upton sinclair. Have you read it? It exposes the meat packing industry!
