Post by Cupcake415 15th March 2011, 4:07 pm

Hello Naturals & Curlies,

Ok... I know that what works for one person may NOT work for the other. But I am a rock stuck in a hard place...

I BC'ed in November 2010. And I am still learning what my hair wants/needs/likes...

I did find out that my hair:
-Hates Shampoo (So I co-wash)
-My hair LOVES HE-Hello Hydration

When I had braids I used "Sulfer 8 Braid Spray", it kept my hair moisturized. I loved it.
I bought a bottle, but it seems as if it is NOT as moisturizing when I spray it on my TWA... I may just put it in some twists and spray in on that way...

Here are some products that I have tried:
-Hawaiian Silky 14 n 1: Hmmm, seemed like it didn't work until I was at the end of the bottle, when I mixed it with conditioner. Also, by the next day my hair will be as dry as paper.

-Care Free Curl: Hmmm. It just didn't work (I returned the bottle right after)

-Shea Moisture Curl Enhancement Coconut: It was OK, but it didnt seem like it worked unless I mixed it with something. By the next day. My hair would be dry as heck.

6-N-1: All it did was sit on my hair. Didn't mositurize, didn't define my curls, basically it didn't do anything that was stated on the bottle. I tried it on wet hair, tried it on dry hair, I even mixed it... NOTHING...

SO CURLIES, I really need some product recommendations. That only thing that I have found that my hair likes it HERBAL ESSENCE HELLO HYDRATION.... I BC'ed in November 2010, it's March 2011, and the only 1 product that I have to live by is a Conditioner, lol

Embarassed I need help!

I would say try Kinky Curly products. The only thing with their products, like Kinky Curly Curling Custard, it will leave your hair crunchy and flaky if you use too much. You will have to use Kinky Curly Knot Today Leave-In Conditioner. I love Shea Moisture (Moisture Retention Shampoo)!!! Miss Jessie's Shampoo is okay but it does define my curls. I've been transitioning since April-May 2010 and slowly but surely cutting off the relaxer. I do like the Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie but I had to use an oil (Carol's Daughter Hair Elixir) which worked out fine. I didn't like how my hair felt after using the smoothie alone; I use it for my 2 strand twists. I just ordered MyHoneyChild Twist Out Cream and Darcy Botanicals Avocado and Plum Twisting Cream so I'll let you know how that turns out.

Yeah, I had to mix my Shea Moisture Curl Enhancement Smootie with an Oil to Be satisfied, lol
But it didn't seem to define my curls...

As far as shampoo, my hair hates it. Just feels like my hair is being stripped... So I do constant co-washing. But I will definatly look into the Kinky Curly Knot Today Conditioner. I actually have a jar of Kinky Curly Curling Custard that my Ole man been using. SO I will probably try the remainder of that!

SM CES seems to be a friend to my hair - I apply it to my damp hair and finish with Suave Captivating Curls Spray gel, brush my hair a little (distributes the smoothie & gel and makes my curls pop!), then I'm good to go. I plan on trying aloe vera gel next - I got mine from Central Market, but it can be purchased everywhere.

your hair looks soft cupcake415 so I can't really compare it to what I've tried because I have more of a 4a-b type, yet its tends to be a little softer in the back (I know,go figure) but soft sheen's roots of nature feathered wipped curl cream and the reviving spray does my hair miracles, NO LIE. It smells good and conditions the hair. It is thick and I would recommend that you use it when your hair is sopping wet. Just gently massage it in and let it does it's thing. The spray will spring it right back up. And it's cost freindly. Has any else tried this product? Please let us know if you try it,I think you'll like it cheers

I have a 4a/b twa and to date the best curl definier for me is Kiny Curly Curly Pudding paired with the Knot Today conditioner. Also great is Jane Carters Nourish and Shine Butter and I just recently discovered Shea Moistures Hold & Shine Moisture Mist which keeps my hair hydrated when sealed with N&S.

When I apply KC Curling Custard I put some in my hand then add a splash of water, mix it together to dilute, then add to my dripping wet hair. That seems to alleviate any crunchiness!

Well, I tried AV gel and I don't likey ... Not at all, so I'm disguising it by adding a mix of oils. It's paid for, I'm using it!!

So, if u haven't heard Walgreens carries Shea Moisture products - IT DOES! Whoo-hoo! cheers In fact, everything buy one ($9.99) get one free. Forgive me, but I bought a bag full of stuff (2 - Curl Enhancing Smoothies, 1 - Moisturizing shampoo, 1 - Masque, 1 - Hair milk, & 1 - Shine Mist) for $30! Ok, ok ... I know, my PJism flaring, but c'mon ... $30?! How much is Miss Jessie's again? Riiiight! LOL

Awwww poor Jo!
Do you guys not have Target or Walgreens over there? If all else fails, you probably could order it online and have it shipped. Or, if you know someone over here (in the States) they could do you a solid favor and send it to you ... It's a REALLY good deal and I'm *almost* tempted to go by just one more time to get another shampoo ... Embarassed (LOL) Shame on me!

OMG, I had a jar of Kinky Curly Curling Custard, but my ole man use it all. I just went to check and there is like a quarter size left, lol... I will buy another jar. I have been meaning to try that stuff...
I will def try to Knot Today conditioner. (My hair hates shampoo)!

I used ECo styler gel. But I hate it. I mean, I hate the hard/crunch and I hate that my hair shrinks bad with Gel!
