ALMA USERS!!!!

Post by Sylkifine on 16th May 2010, 12:03 am

HEY LADIES!!!!

I purchased some alma powder some weeks ago, and its now, since finals are over and all, I have the time to mix it, and apply.

What are some ingredients you all use, and what are its benefits?

I was thinking of the key ones that have been my staples, though I would like to try new ones: honey, olive oil, and a bit of coconut oil.....

Also, can you say that is has the same/better/no better effects than henna?

I mixed amla with water the first couple of times. I would add enough water until it was a pudding-like consistency. I then mixed it with other ayurvedic powders and water. Most recently (been a while) I mixed it with other powders, EVOO, anoop and EVCO.

I use henna and henna is more strengthening. With henna alone, my strands felt thicker. This was before I knew about clarifying. When I used amla alone, I did not see any difference in my hair. I should try it alone now and see if I notice anything different.

For my hair, I mix it with henna. For my face, I mix it w/neem, lemon powder and bentonite clay.

I just use warm tap water.. you don't have to add anything acidic to it like lemon or vinegar because amla is acidic already.

I did a post about the health benefits of amla here:
http://suprnatural.wordpress.com/2009/12/29/amla-as-a-supplement/

Just be careful.. some amla is sold "not for internal use". Be sure to read the label. I believe Hesh Amla is not for internal use. I had a different brand that came in a plastic jar which stated it was fine for internal use.

I do know if you are using Alma whether alone or mixed with other powders.. Oil your hair 1st.. Not sure if everyone does this but when I started using those powders I jacked my head up.. I did oil my hair but what I didn't know was never use Shikakai, aritha or brahmi powder alone and my hair would not stop breaking.. I use Shikakai alone I didn't mix it with any other powder. It was like when I wash I was losing hair while rinsing my hair almost like a bad relaxer.. I didn't think my hair would ever get back on track.. When I did started using it right I would mix couple tbsp of the powders to 1 cup of warm water and 1 cup of cold water let it sit a min and then pour that over my hair and then co-wash. This is what I used when I 1st started transitioning.

Mixing with henna I don't know anything special about that

Amla (moisture and strength), Shikakai (cleanse and strength), Neem (dandruff and deep cleansing), Brahmi (growth and stimulation), Aritha (oily scalp, build up), Maka (bhringeraj) (deep moisture).

I just posted this in another forum:

I did a treatment with amla powder last night and so far so good...

I mixed some powder with warm water to form a paste. After I let it sit for a bit I mixed it with plain, full-fat yogurt and a little coconut milk. Now I don't really know why I did it - I think I wanted to do something somewhat conditioning and add a little protein.

I left it on my co-washed hair for about an hour or so (didn't mean to leave it on for that long) and co-washed and oil rinsed it out. There are still some in my hair, but its mostly gone.

I noticed right away that my curls were clumped and more defined. I have more body and shine in my hair. I may try it with just water next time. The only issue is I don't like how difficult it was to get it out of my hair...
