4a/b Style Ideas?
I have fine hair and the twist out doesnt lead to much volume...(even when I shake!) I basically only have 2 styles -
1. Wash hair, put in 5-6 large twists/flat twists...when about 80% dry take out twists...this helps elongate my curls (which shrink like crazzaaayyyy) and looks more natural on me (plus its uber easy to do)
2. Normal twist out....but also spritz with water after it dries so that it gets a little frizzier... and fuller looking...
I'm not very creative with styles....Does anyone have any styling tips for this type of hair?
[I think I have 4a/4b but I know I have at least 3 textures...the front is just fuzzy with no curl pattern whatsoever...the back looks like 4a/4c and all type of in between mixes...my hair is overall very fine and very soft (feels exactly like that material they put in pillows when its dry w/o product)]

when my hair dries, all curl definition in the front is lost!

I was going to suggest rollersetting, as well. You could also flat twist the front with a bantu knot twist out in the back. I find they are more curlier than regular twist outs.

I second bantu knot twist out- for me- it will curl better than any roller. Also have you checked out youtube?

Thanks AfrikanLatina & TerraD!!
My avatar pic's hair is in twists. I have more twist pics I can show were they are smaller, more micro like twists, if you want me too. I believe in that particular pic I used only shea from nassab. I don't normally use a lot of water based products with my twists b/c my hair will get too coily and not lay straight, unless I am going for that look. I can show you a pic of that as well. That's really all I do. It takes me forever to twist my own hair (esp. the back) so sometimes my friend will do it for me, who is also natural, and she did these twists. Basically, we applied shea to a section of hair (4 sections in all) and started twisting from the back in sm-med twists. When I twist my own hair I start in the front...it's just easier for me and I also twist on the diagonal instead of horizontal parts so they will fall better (really cute for twist outs!).

No, prob!
These are micro's. They took forever to take out! lol. Can't remember what we used to twist these but when I wet them they turned real coily.

Re: 4a/b Style Ideas?
Thank you ladies! =)
My friend did those for me. She took about half a pinky size (give or take) of hair per twist, and my hair is fine, just dense. So, I ended up w/ a lot of little twists or microtwists. These were fun twists and killer twist-outs but it came with a price when taking out - Time (a whole weekend to be exact!) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Thanks! At night I would either put them all into one ponytail or I would twist large sections then put on my satin bonnet. When my hair is twisted I don't really experience any problems with knots. I did, however, moisturize when I felt they needed it. When I did moisturize I used a cheapie conditioner like Suave lavender (my hair loved that particular one). After my weekly or at the very most bi-weekly cowashes, I would seal w/castor oil and also apply it to the length of my hair. It made it extermly soft and moisturized for several days after. When my hair is twisted it retains moisture very well w/o much effort or product. That's why I prefer twists most of the time, esp in the winter. All I need is water, cheapie cond, and castor or shea and my hair is good & happy! For instance, the above pics (in yellow shirt) are about ready to take out, hence the frizzness and new growth, lol. But, if you can tell, they still are moisturized well, which is what probably contributed to minimal hair loss during takeout.

Thanks gamma, she's my BFF! She loves to twists. I just got her to charge for her services not too long ago. She did her sons locs and maintains his friends locs. She's good!

Re: 4a/b Style Ideas?
Hello, my daughter just turned 4 but I think you can do some of these on your hair. She has 4A hair, here's just a few...
twists w/ some side cornrows. the twists I would twist one strand clockwise and the other counterclockwise, which gave it this look instead of the fuller look
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
first time doing bantu knots and knot out, I didn't seperate the curls, wasn't really sure what to do, lol but you get the idea

cornrows on top, flexi rod set in back

NikG20,
I love the twists and the bantu knots. I think I'm gonna try them this weekend. I need to watch a few tutorials first though. I can't believe she sits still long enough for you to do the styles. The results are beautiful.
