If you can braid, you can definitely two strand flat twist. It's just like braiding, instead of 3 strand of hair, you use two.

TheRYL1 wrote:Well, today I took my twists down. Note to self: NEVER twist on dry hair...that does not work for you!
So, thanks to inspiration from LynnieLuv (THANK YOU, LYNNIE), I was able to turn the electrified look into something decent!
I used my hair as a head band. I braided instead of flat-twisted--I have to work my way up to that! This saved me from wetting my hair...I just raked some SheaMoisture Conditioning Milk and sprayed with the Hold & Moisture Mist.
And a curls close-up for Nyla! ;-)
so gorgeous!

Hello there!
Your curl definition is awesome! I love it!
Yeah for sharing your knowledge. People just don't know what their hair can do. I think we all were there at one point.

Thanks Chrs. I really didn't believe I had too much to offer; everyone seems to know so much and have such wonderful styles. What could I possibly add?
Then I realized, I may not be a stylist, but hair health is my strength (I think), so why not chime in? And I could pass on the knowledge, like it was passed to me! I'm here jackin' styles and soaking up tips, so I gotta give up something! ;-)
And the atmosphere...peaceful, fun, supportive, spirit-filled, uplifting...I felt comfortable enough to finally have a say!

OMG I am so very late but you go head with the natural headband!!! I am going to have to try that really soon. What do you guys do with the tail?
Re: TheRYL1...Hey Y'all! ;-)
A day at my place:
Daughter: "It's soooooo short"
Mom: It's kinda cute isn't it. Check out the curlys"
Daughter: "Those aren't curls. Those are naps"
Mom: "Yes they are, LOOK"
Daughter: "I ain't touchin' that hair. My hand might get cut"
Mom: "Pack your bags and get out." A few minutes later "I am going to toss your wig to the cat and let him play with it...Here kitty!"
Daughter "NOOOOOOOOO!"

Re: TheRYL1...Hey Y'all! ;-)
Swoodard...LOL...that is too funny!
Earlier this week:
I've finished co-washing, about to put conditioner in my hair. My child comes in the bathroom and says:
"What are you mixed with? My hair don't curl up like that when I wash it?"
WTH? You've known me all ya life...how can you ask that? Then it hit me: she never saw me without my Ultra Sheen Precise (thank you very much) straightened hair...SMH. She has to get used to the curlys! ;-)
Sweet...thank you! I tell ya, the hair headband is a life saver! I just tuck the tail toward the back, as close as possible to the braid and pin. It's not really noticeable due to your hair falling over it.

Re: TheRYL1...Hey Y'all! ;-)
I just realized this exchange took place the day before her discussion of stereotypes at school.
Hmmm. Did my hair show my child that Black women's natural hair isn't BAD after all? Wow!!! Has she always felt her hair and all Black women's hair was "bad" unless you are mixed?
We've never discussed hair to this extent. I never knew how much hair (and perhaps my "good hair" label) had affected my child. Interesting!I'll have to dig deeper here as time goes on. ;-)
True Story:
A good friend of mine who's hair has been in all forms: natural, pressed and weaved (I loved her natural hair...she actually started my interest because her chunky twists were F-L-Y!) came to work one day with this incredible (to me) weave. It was straight black hair, with the part in the middle and it hung all the way down her back! Good Lord!!! It wasn't like that yesterday! Did it grow overnight? WTH?
In case you haven't noticed, I'm "full of funny" (as a good friend told me) and usually have something to say! (ALL my friends and fam would have a comment on this sentence!! hahaha) And my closest friends can be BRUTAL if you are slippin' in the appearance dept...we love to clown each other...it's an art! I say all this to say...when sista walked up with this super weave...I laughed...I couldn't help it! I laughed the good, belly-holding laugh...and I called her NEGROhontas! OMG!
Well...she got mad at me! I know, I know. But, I figure she knew it was coming...she had to know! Anyway, the next morning, she saw me and walked right past me! I knew it was my comment...ya think? So, because I like her and we are friends (haha), I went and I apologized for my comment...I told her I was sorry and didn't mean to hurt her feelings. After that, she was cool and it was back to normal.
What it taught me? You never know how much one's appearance/hair defines/affects them. Her reaction really shocked me because this is one of my most flyest friends...she ALWAYS looks GOOD! I know my "joke" may have sounded harsh, but it wasn't because that was the nature of our friendship, but I hit a nerve. [Later I heard this friend agree with another one about Black women not being considered attractive with "nappy" hair, but can catch like flies with a long weave. To say that me and the other friend bumped heads on this topic is an understatment--it got HOT!]
These exchanges gave me insight into our hair "issues"...now I have to investigate those within my own home!

RYL- you just keep it REAL!!! Nothing wrong with that.
I did like the Negrohantas- remark! Glad I wasn't there. I might have caused a fight- I would have been laughing so LOUD!!!!

OK Nyla...let me get my pennies right...we will do up L.A.! LOL
Thank you ladies for the Mom's Day wishes...my day was great! One good thing: My "baby daddy" (yep, I said baby daddy...we've known each other since we were 13...I had a child with my friend...young/dumb...a whole nutha chapter of stories...LOL). Anywho, he wished me a happy mother's day and thanked me for our beautiful daughter! It may sound small, but Wow...that was HUGE! God is good...heck, it only took 15 years! ;-)
Hey Sweet...that is how I roll...good or bad...I gotta teach! LOL
Wait....How did I forget this? My child's father asked me (after seeing me most of the day)..."So what's up with you? You hanging with Jill Scott now? " Yeah, folks thought that was good and funny, especially The Daughter...of course! AAAARRGGHHH! LOL But, I just laughed and said YEP!

Morning TheRYL!
I've enjoyed catching up and reading your posts this morning. I love the way you fixed your dry twist results with your natural braided headband.
I was LOL at you and your daughters conversation...LOL@throwing the wig to the cat!!
You know....no matter how fly we think our friends are..they(including ourselves) have some internal struggles. I found this out yesterday at church with Mrs. Jenkins...who is fly has all get out, but will not wear her natural hair to save her life. She wears a wig and covers her hair up.
I'm trying to follow your example "teach 1; reach 1" but how do you reach a closed mind?
I see you had a wonderful Mother's Day.
Have a blessed day....
KNH

Ryl- start saving! LOL.... I am happy to hear about your ex and you! It makes things so much better when they start to acknowledge all that we do! As for the Jill Scott comment. You should have said I keep it REAL! and winked! Because .. isnt his current ...a wig/weave wearer?
Re: TheRYL1...Hey Y'all! ;-)
Good Morning Ladies!
Nyla...hahahahahahaha...yeah, but it wasn't even worth it to go there about weaves! But, that's a good comeback for the next time...you know it'll be a next time! LOL
OK...pennies being saved!
Hey KNH...yeah, folks kill me with comments/attitude but have tremendously FAKE, SHINY hair-like stuff plopped on top of their heads! SMH
