TheRYL1...

Still laughing at you and your daughter. Sounds like my son!!! He is too funny, but that is a story for another day.

You family will adjust, and when they do just let them know how much further along they would be had they gone natural with you!!!

LOL

I can't wait to here your other hair stories!!

Those curls are ridiculous! And your daughter will get over it. She'll be ok especially when you do your length check. Once she sees just how long it really is she'll change her tune.

Girl, let's not even go there about a track!

You look beautiful.

I know how you feel too. My daughter is 20 and is in college. She does not remember me with natural hair since the last time was when she was 2. My fault, I know. I should have done this a long time ago.

Now, she can't go a day without making a comment. Yesterday she said she had 2 fathers. She keeps threatening to sew tracks in while I am asleep (kidding) and wails about why I wear my hair in these nasty naps (not sure if she's kidding).

It's funny, I started doing my hair at the same age as you and had kept it at shoulder length or longer for most of my life. Now she can't comprehend me with short hair or curls, even though it's 10 months since my last relaxer. Talk about holding on to the past. What really is funny is she used to complain that my relaxed hair looked like straw, which it most certainly did!

Hey Ladies!
SisterBoyd...it was the one on Century between Crenshaw & Prairie. I'll check for more this week. (Sally's is in this shopping center, too.) Oh, do you use Moisure Maniac? They have that...big bottles...$11.99. They have other products by the moisture maniac people, too...same sizes, same price...they usually always have these, though.

TerraD...let's see...I'm right down the street from a Sally's (see above). I got the shea butter I use from the place SisterBoyd told me about...on Crenshaw & 38/9th...$10 for a nice size bucket.

SWoodward...THANK YOU! I can so relate! My child has only known me with relaxed hair, so this is a big adjustment for HER! LOL We must share the DAILY comments (yes, she's got something to say everyday, too) we receive.

BUT, y'all, there may be light at the end of the tunnel:

Today The Daughter (Tatiana, actually) told me in her Sociology class, each student had to submit a stereotype about their "group". The Daughter told me she responded with: "It's a stereotype that all Black women have nappy hair!" WHOA! The instructor, a sista, replied, "And one we need to erase!

My hair has my child THINKING! LOL Perhaps I'll garner a term paper? What cha think? ;-)

In hair news, I twisted my hair again. I really like the low-maintenance of them...I'm just not ready to take these things to Prime Time (i.e. outdoors). Today, I pinned the front, let the back hang and slapped on a hat! One day they'll be juicy enough for Prime Time...I'm patient!

Sweet...she really is having a hard time with it! And it's MY hair...SHM.

But, I guess she's confused : her stepmom changes her weave at least twice a WEEK! Yep, twice a week! LOL So the kid is mesmerized by the yaki, then she comes home to me and my kinks and coils! Poor baby...I'll get her to transition yet! ROTFLMAO

Well, today I took my twists down. Note to self: NEVER twist on dry hair...that does not work for you!

So, thanks to inspiration from LynnieLuv (THANK YOU, LYNNIE), I was able to turn the electrified look into something decent!

I used my hair as a head band. I braided instead of flat-twisted--I have to work my way up to that! This saved me from wetting my hair...I just raked some SheaMoisture Conditioning Milk and sprayed with the Hold & Moisture Mist.

And a curls close-up for Nyla! ;-)

Hey TerraD...yep, the Target (across the street from Sally's) has it.

Which one did you call? You're in the valley, right? I don't know anything about the valley...I'm sorry. Terra...you might need to visit a Target located in "da hood"! LOL

Let's see? Are you familiar with LaCienega Blvd...have you been to the WestField Plaza in Culver City? (I ask because you work on Sunset & Vermont.)

Let me know.

Ryl & Terra, you two are so funny! Maybe the next meet up should be in "da hood". That way everyone can get some shea butter and some conditioning milk ha ha ha. Don't forget my place for the shea butter has mango and coco butter. One time they did have henna. They have neem oil and a few other things.

Well alright for daughter and speaking against the stereotype. And I'll keep my comments about that changing the weave *rolling eyes, lips twisted* ;p

Really, she'll be ok. Keep reinforcing the fact that she, herself, is beautiful and wonderful. And if you're her mother you have to be pretty swell too Wink I just love the word swell ha haha

Girl, you done left me in the dust with this twisting...

SisterBoyd...we may just have to do that...end whatever meet-up with a trip to the fully stocked supply stores in L.A. :-)

Yes, sista girl changes her hair (and her 13-yr. old daughter's) like underwear! I'm wrong...but, I'm telling the truth! hahahahahaha

I love the twists and the twist out...I'm a work in progress! In my case, I look at it like this: Sweet, Lynnie, Bholmes, BBD, and Chrs have been at this a while longer than I...all I have to do is be patient (practice and pray) my hair will do like their's does one day!

Terra...there are two in the Inglewood vacinity...you probably got the one that has nothing but Yes to Carrots! Yep, I've been through all the surrounding ones...LOL

My (hand) therapist's assistant is a curly girl...hair is similiar to Tracey Ellis Ross, but more coiled. Today, she had it straight...it looked nice. But, of course, she didn't like it...said how long it took to straighten, then curl...and now, it's straight after all that! And she was talking about her dry ends, etc. She said she always had problems with her hair because her mom is white w/straight hair and had no clue what to do with her massive curls! Was I supposed to hear this? LOL You know I told her about some coconut & olive oil and Mixed Chicks (she never heard it)...and I gave her this site and NC.com.

Ladies, my curly duties for today are done! Reach one, teach one! ROTFLMAO

Lynn...thank you for the idea. When I saw it...I was like "YES, I need that style!" It gives me something to do with the front and I don't have to worry about it once it's done!

I can braid...I have to work on my flat twist game, though! LoL
