Re: help my edges pleaseeeee
Hello Curly Nikki Members,
I just did the big chop in January, and I need some help!! I currently reside in South Korea and have worn weaves basically my whole life and now my edges are destroyed... My bad hair regimen has gone on for years and years and years.... It all started at the age of 10 in the 5th grade when I talked my mother into allowing me to get a perm because I wanted beautiful hair like the ladies I saw on tv... at that point in my life my hair never grew and I thought that getting a perm would give me exactly what I wanted... after months and months of talks with my mother, she finally let me get a perm. After getting my perm I started curling, applying gels and my hair just broke off completely :-(... this is where I discovered braids. I started getting my hair braided every two months, and had every style u can name... cornrows, micros, box braids, EVERYTHING...
During this time the hair started getting longer, but my edges began to lose hair.... so I continued braiding it, thinking that the tighter the braids are the longer my edges would grow!!! Bad idea my edges got worse I lost almost all of my hair there... After giving up braids I than moved along to sewn ins and continued with that, hoping that if I sew weave around the rest of my hair and leave my edges out it would grow... I was wrong this only caused my hairline to recede more :-(... Finally about two yrs ago I decided to cut it off and get the Nia Long haircut... It was beautiful but the constant perming and glueing pieces to cover my edges caused even MORE DAMAGE!! This year I decided and made the decision to go alllllll natural and I feel great about it!! Although I have been natural for only 4 months I see some changes in my edges from applying castor oil every other day... during the day I usually where wigs and when I come home I take it off and oil my scalp or baggy it up once or twice a week... I have started co-washing every week and I feel like maybe just maybe my hair is starting to get healthier.... i use coconut oil, castor oil, shea butter (cantu products) and patene pro-v for naturals, I also use aphoghee protein treatment every six to 7 weeks.... is there anything else I can use ladies?? What can I do to ensure my edges grow healthy and full??? Please give me your advice!!!!
Thanks Mkells!!!
P.S- I want to be able to walk into a salon one day and not be ashamed because everyone is staring at my damaged edges... :-(

Re: help my edges pleaseeeee
I think you are doing the best you can for your hair, I'm trying to grow a thin spot in as well

and I'm just trying to be patient and give it TLC and use the right products. It'll take time, but it will be worth it.
Hopefully someone will be able to give you better advice lol. I wish you luck on your HHJ

Ahn-nyeong Mkells,
I also lived in South Korea, Geoje Island (Okpo). I agree with Karyn, you are on the right track. If you are seeing progress, it will continue with time and patience. Scalp massages are good and stimulate hair growth. Also, take advantage of the healthy food in Korea. While I lived in Korea, my hair was at its healthiest because my diet consisted of a variety of Korean food. Most of their food is grown naturally, rich in vitamins and nutrients and don't contain a lot of sugar or fat. Don't get discouraged.

Don't get discouraged is wonderful advice Pinkpearls and scalp massages with the castor oil are a great way to stimulate the follicles. If your concern grows and you don't receive the information you are seeking from the forums I would advise to consult with a dermatoligist or another medical physician that specializes in traction alopecia and other scalp/hair conditions. They will provide you with the best knowledge about your condition and products that can stimulate growth.

I really think that you consult a dermatologist. A doctor can determine if the damage is permanent or can be reversed.

Re: help my edges pleaseeeee
try putting a few drops of peppermint and or eucalyptus oil in the castor oil. It should help to stimulate the follicles.
