So how long in terms of inches is your hair, or should hair that normal grows after 17 months...im actually 8 months in but I aim to cut it this July...I dont know how much growth I have because its hard to comb and I permed the front 2 months ago affraid (big regret!!!!!!!, it was only edges but they have already grown out about an inch) pale but my hair is about 2-3 inches in the back and i think 4-5 inches in the middle...the front is like 2-3 but some parts are growing out again...I want to keep my permed ends because I dont feel comfortable in short hair...and I want to grow it out as long as I can and I think I'll use my summer break to get used to my hair

Y'all are my inspiration. I'm hoping to have a long transition. At least 16 months, but possibly 2-3 years if I can make it that long. I've never had short hair, and believe that I would look funny if I BC'd. Plus, it would be a major shock for my DH. Shocked

Hi Purplec18,

I'm at 16 months (last relaxer on May 2009) and I'm at about 8-9 inches of new growth.

I'm 3c/4a I think. At 8 months I was right about 4 inches. I growth consistantly a 1/2 inch a month. Some months I get 3/4 of an inch. This is my second time transitioning. The first time I transitioned was about 7 years ago. I was natural my whole life then at age 19, I got my first relaxer and hated it. I never got a first touch up. I started growing it out immediately. It took about 2.5 years to grow it out fully natural to bra strap length. The biggest thing is patience. But it's SO hard to be patient.

Yeah it is...I'm becoming impatient, I want to cut it in July I dont know how much inches of growth I have though I checked in the back and its 2 but my crown has more, but I need to change my regimen and detangle more often...I permed the front 2 months ago when school open and I was so mad I gave it a dreaded look everyday I felt untrue and was sooo upset Evil or Very Mad

It's been 15 months since my last relaxer. I wanted to transition to about the two year mark, however, I think I'm going to cut the relaxed ends off before than. Hopefully, I can make it to the 20th month mark. I'm super excited about the journey and discovering myself through the process.

I ended my 22 month transition 2 hours ago and I feel GREAT! I was tired off the detangling the relaxed ends would no longer copperate for my braid outs, it was at the point that the relaxed ends were cramping my style, literally, lol.
I had about 5-6 inches of relaxed ends. The BC took me from MBL to APL. Some places were really difficult to tell where it was my natural hair or the relaxer because my texture at my crown is loose. I already knew what my hair texture would be like because I was natural most of my life but this is the first time that I will fully be embracing it, not all the flat ironing and blowdrying like I used to do. I'm thinking I will straighten 2 or 3 times per year for dusting and length check purposes. No more frying my curls.

I guess there comes a point where you feel emotionally ready to get go of the hair and when that happens...CHOP and never look back, :-) Have a great week everybody.
