Three months (well, just shy of a few days).
My new boyfriend LOVES the natural look; he couldn't stop touching my hair.
My brother complimented me for a second time-and he NEVER compliments people, let alone his little sis.
Still doing braid-outs and cornrows, but I had to cut a large portion of the relaxed ends off; they were badly frayed and just had to go...
In all, the transition is going quite well Smile

Hey everyone! I'm totally new to this forum. I'm a little over 3 months post-relaxer and am going natural for good (this time Smile ) This is my 2nd go-round. The first time, it wasn't intentional. I wore braids for over a year and eventually the 2 textures weren't getting along and my hair started matting one day I tried washing it. So i ran to the beauty shop and cut it off and ended up liking it. During that time I had no goals for my hair, and couldn't figure out how to style it on my own. Eventually I ended up going back to my relaxed ways and allowed others' opinions to get in the way. But being natural during that time was definitely when I felt my most confident and i'm trying to get back to that! Right now i'm wearing two strand kinky twist (avatar) and I want to big chop very soon (I dont know how long i can wait lol).

Most recent relaxer: December

I'm a new transitioner also. I was reluctant to transition because in the past when I would stretch my hair I would see a lot of breakage, plus I did not know how to handle the new growth so I just left it alone until I got a relaxer which caused even more hair breakage. I finally decided this was it, I'm going to transition no matter what so I read all the articles on this site and viewed transitioning videos on YouTube. Taking the time to educate myself has made all the difference. Transitioning is not perfect but so far it hasn't been as bad as my previous attempts at stretching were.

Things that have made the difference:

Moisture, moisture moisture!! I spritz my hair daily, before when relaxed water was my enemy, not it is my friend.
Treating my hair gently
Do not rush when detangling.....this is an on going lesson!
Wash in parts

Hello everyone. I'm new to the CurlyNikki forum. Very Happy

After much thought, I've decided to go on my journey to natural hair.

I'm tiredy tired of getting my hair relaxed and I likes the BIG hair anyway. So I'm not doing a big chop, I'm going to "transition" for about two years so that at least my natural growth will be shoulder-length stretched.

I'm doing braidouts the rest of the summer and I'll experiment with products until I find the right fit.

My last relaxer was 1/26/2011 at 5:30 pm. LOL. So I'm going into my third month.

Also on the prowl to find my hair twin too! I "think" I'm a 4a/b but who knows! I just remember growing up with my hair being thick and cottony.

Ya'll I am soooo EXCITED!! I did my hair last night and it came out great!
I did the two-strand twist with a bantu knot and it looks just like I had rollers in . I will definitely be doing this more often. After the style is worn out I put it up into a messy bun. I was ideal because I didn't have to run a comb through it or do any of that extra stuff to get great looking hair .

Enjoy!
