Henna smells like cow dung??
I've found a good shop on the internet where I can buy henna and a few other naturals told me the bought their henna from there.
BUT I only heard negative things about henna. This 2 friends of mine were just like: If I were you I'd never try henna.. it stinks like cow dung, you'll never ever get the color out of your hair and so on...
I don't really want to be walking round and be smelling like cow dung!!
I just thought before I buy it I should ask the professionals and know what you think before I make my final decision.

Lol, I don't think it smells THAT bad. It has a really strong smell though, like soil, plants, and some other earthy type smells, but it isn't unbearable. I was preparing for the worst though because I heard so many people talking about the smell of it.

Thanks.. guess I'll still try it out though..
By the way I just noticed I've also been natural since 2006 and actually have the same goal as you do [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

You could always add a couple teaspoons of ground cloves to your henna to camouflage the smell. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

It smells very grassy green to me but after a rinse and DC it is gone.
Re: Henna smells like cow dung??
It definitely doesn't smell like cow anything. Very earthy smell...kind of annoying to me, because you literally walk around smelling your hair all day, and not in a good way. It is definitely gone in a week. I believe the benefits far outweigh the inconvenience of the first week, and my hair is so much stronger because of it.

Not cow dung, but...ugh. It gave me a headache just mixing it up this evening and I'm not ever sensitive to odors. I can't put my finger on what it reminds me of...it's not stinky like relaxer, but there's something slightly sour about it. I kept sniffing it to figure out what it was, but it just made my headache worse. I finally concluded that something about it (to my nose) smells like beer and I'm not a beer drinker, so phew!
I added so much stuff to it, I'm afraid to admit it. Ginger, cloves and cinnamon and I didn't even measure...I just kept mixing and sniffing until I could stand it. And this was mixed with cocoa. But then powdered cocoa is not the most pleasant odor either until you add the milk.
I'll get over it, but I am glad I knew to expect some sort of unpleasant odor.

Wow, those are alot of odors! I would have had a headach
Re: Henna smells like cow dung??
The smell actually reminds me of wet grass but it fades after abt a week or two. Yes Henna is permanent but if your hair is a dark brown to black you will only be able to see the color in the sun anyway it's like using a orange crayon on black construction paper. If you are only going for the conditioning benefits you can add amla or indigo to your mix,
