You should be able to find unrefined shea butter at your local BSS or any health food store. I trimmed my ends nearly 3 months ago but I probably won't trim again until my next weave install. I think every 3-4 months should suffice.

I don't think there is a particular time to trim. If you feel your hair needs it, go for it. Your strands will thank you.
