So the worst thing that could have possibly happen to a girl's hair,
happened to me. I was natural for a year, but I decided to go back to
the relaxer process. After that I wanted to dye my hair red so I went
to my hair dresser to do so. She failed to tell me that putting harsh
relaxer chemicals on top of that would be too much, and break off my
hair. I had to learn this for myself as she put the relaxer in and my
scalp was on fire more than ever. When she came back and told me her
mistake I had to look in the mirror to a head of thin hair and a
receding hair line. (I was only 17 btw). I then had to go through wigs
for the next four months, but when my new growth came into the front of
my hair line I was excited. Then that big day came when my hair dresser
was going to cut all of my hair off so it can be even with my new
growth. Taw daw! The big chop came and I watched her as she cut away at
it. I didn't dread my short curls. Instead I was inspired, but she put
a new wig on top of it. When I went back to college my scalp was
begging to breathe. So I took the wig off in front of my closest
friend. She said I looked great with my natural hair. And I think I
already believed it for myself because after that I couldn't put that
wig back on. It was suffocating and not me. I showed my roomate my
natural hair (she is from China btw and didn't even understand why I
wore a cap to bed.). She was pleasantly surprised, which made me even
more confident that different people could really accept me. Now I'm
going on my fourth month with my twa and I still love it.

Well for shampoo I'm in between products. I'm finishing up Carol's daughter shampoo with sea moss. I don't recommend it for the fact that I don't like the moss's scent. The other shampoo that I love is Herbal Esscence Totally Twisted. For cowashes I use Sauve Naturals conditioner. It's pretty good at detangling. When I really want to give my hair a treat on the weekends I use this Olive Oil deep conditioning treatment. I love it because it has so many natural ingredients including orange and kiwi. Your hair will smell like oranges which really wakes you up! This product comes in a bag. I'll probably post a picture of it soon!

So do you use any oils, other moisturizers, shea butter?

I am dying for shea butter! This spring break that is my reward to myself because I'd like to twist my hair. I do use an Olive Oil that comes in a bottle for hot oil treatments. For leave in conditioner/seal my hair I use Creme of Nature. The only product I had used with a relaxer and still use. I also use this spray product called SCurl that is suppose to make my hair look curly. I got over the look part I mostly use it because it holds the water in my hair.

I enjoyed reading your story too, but was sadden that your stylist wasn't knowledgable about over processing your hair. He/She needs to take some more classes and update themselves. I used the Scurl spray to moisturize my hair and followed with a blend of oils to seal.

Re: deeply_rooted_chick
It does seem like an obvious mistake for a hair dresser. We didn't do it all in the same sitting. I waited maybe two month before the relaxer after dyeing. She must have thought my hair would have gained some strength by then : /

Re: deeply_rooted_chick
So today I am very excited! My grandmother is very supportive of me going natural, and thinks it's cool because my aunt is and has been for years. She asked me if there are any hair products I need and I immediately asked her for Shea Butter so I can twist my hair. Today she sent it and it defiantly looks different from what I thought it would, but does the job well! I have a paper to write tonight so I twist the front of my head to test out the product. It defiantly held my twist beautiful and made my hair look longer! I think next week I will full twist my hair and post pictures until now this is what I have. The smell isn't strong, and it feels cremey between my fingers. Sorry if the picture is blurry. The bottle says Shea Butter "softening" Hair & Scalp Lotion. It says it's for braids, locks, twist, and other natural styles. You can find it at Sallys. Can't wait to twist my whole head! Hope you guys are having a good day!

My mission for spring break is to make my own hair sprays! The two oils I know I want is peppermint and lavender. I can't wait to go grocery shopping.

Re: deeply_rooted_chick
Thank you and omg four days! I bet you feel like it's so close and yet so far! I'll defiantly be searching or the pictures.
So guys this morning I decided to twist my hair but washed it before hand. I dont know why but it's harder for my to twist when wet. Is it healthy if I just go with twisting it dry with shea butter?

I've twisted my hair dry with shea butter and loved the results. I had soft, moisturized hair.

nice well after a while of air drying I'm back at it. I've twisted along the side and I'm amazed by the length. Soooooo happy!

That's one reason I like dry twisting. It shows your length.

I love it! After so long of using it, it didn't leave any smell on my fingers and it's not greasy. I was surprised I didn't have to run to the bathroom to wash my hands. I believe it's a keeper
