Hi again ladies!!!

As, promised, my "carrot top:"

Everyone (esp all in my salsa class) seemed to really like it!! One guy in my class (he's white) said to me today "Man, you're an awesome dancer... I think your hair gives you super powers!" LOL.... I kindly thanked him, and told him that, well, in a way, it does =)

Went out later, and put it in a pony puff... the banana clip was annoying me!

Hope you all had a wonderful day!

J.

So I opened my box from Curls....

Post by MsJay1121 on 13th January 2010, 3:23 pm

And imagine my surprise when I found that they sent me samples of other STUFF!!!! I was only expecting their Curls Souffle, but I also received:

Cleansing Cream
Coconut Sublime Conditioner
Quench Curls....

yes, they're only samples, but they were FREE!!!! I was so hype!!!! I used some of the Quench Curls this morning (mixed it with some water in my spray bottle) to preserve yesterday's WnG (it smells like a yummy, fruity, drink ), and fro-hawked.... Still working with tons of frizz (boo!), but my hair held up really good, and I received more curl definition in the back...I think she likes it.... but we'll keep trying before I totally commit... I've heard mixed reviews about the big three (MJ's, Curls, and KC), so I'm keeping an open mind, but I'm not getting my hopes up either.

I promised myself that once my souffle came, I would twist my hair to protect it and stop wearing it out so much due to this cold weather (why is NC so cold?!)... I will be good on my promise...

Curls update:

So I've been using the Curls products (Quenched Curls and Curls Soufflé) for the last two days, and I'll be honest--not really that impressed. I mean, they're doing what was promised, but the result isn't spectacular. I'm able to get the same curl definition (if not more) with my current staples: Shea and GF. The only reason I'd consider ordering the Curls would be for the scent... LOL

I'm wondering if maybe by using all the products they sent me as a system would produce better results? I'm due for a cowash, so I'll try that tomorrow and see if the results are different...

Until tomorrow ladies,

J.
Side note: My prayers are with those in Haiti and anyone here who currently can not reach a loved one there.

RIP Teddy!!! =)

MY HENNA CAME YESTERDAY!!! This will be my first time, and I'm really excited about it! I have really, REALLY dry hair, so I think I'll mix my henna with yogurt. Henna day will be Monday--until then, I'll prolly wear a curly fro.

I also unleashed the PJ in me. I bought like four conditioners for co-wahshing:
HEHH
HE Totally Twisted
HE None of your frizness
Organix tea tree and mint (my favorite, it smells like a girl scout cookie!)

More pics to come, and I'll keep you ladies posted on the henna experience. Any tips?

Loving carrot top.

Yeah, the Curls line is okay but not heavy enough for me. I do use it for WnGs. I did not see a huge difference when using steps 2-4. I do not have nor would I purchase the cleansing cream (step 1). The products do smell good--like vanilla cake batter or frosting, yummo (yeah I love the Food Network).

As far as henna, definitely do not mix it with acid or a lot of acid since your hair is dry already. You can help with dryness also by doing a pre-poo with oils (extra virgin coconut oil, EVOO, Vatika) for at least a couple of hours, if you can overnight. Rinse out the oils and air dry until damp and apply henna (you can also add oils to the henna--I would wait until the dye releases).

Thanks Chrs!!! I thought it was just me with the Curls. I tried the whole system yesterday (minus step one) for a WnG, and the curl definition was much better--but the shrinkage was insane!!!!

But on another note... It's henna day!

So, I was scared that because I left it in the yogurt container the dye didn't release---but it was fine!

But I wish I'd gotten the memo on the smell... it's, um... different:

Yesterday's mix:

Today's henna:

Henna in my hair

This morning, I added EVOO, honey, and paprika for heightened color...

and now, we wait... =)

Verdict on the henna...

Post by MsJay1121 on 18th January 2010, 6:40 pm

So, after 4 hours, I washed it out!
I cowashed 3x's: The first two times with Organix tea tree mint condish mixed with baking soda. The final cowash was with condish and olive oil. I let that sit in my hair for an hour, then rinsed. From there, I added about a quarter size amount of curls soufflé and put it in a pony puff (had to run out real quick so I couldn't twist like I wanted to)....

Color: Eh, not much... I can faintly see it in the sunlight, but overall not much change....

All the other benefits: MAN!!! The shine is insane!!! And I was really shocked at the amount (or lack thereof) of product I had to use. My hair is soft, manageable, and I only lost 3 hairs detangling!!

So yeah... henna is my homie =)

I applaud you henna users. It looks so messy. Your hair is blinging though.

Lynnie: I think because I mixed with yogurt (thank Tia btw!!!) the mess was kept to a minimum. It had a pudding-like consistency, so it was really easy to apply. No splash, no drips... it wasn't bad at all!

Thanks Tia, especially for the awesome suggestion! I saw on the henna forum in your fotki where you mixed with yogurt.... my hair loved it, and it felt so cool on my scalp... ah.... =)... kind of bummed I didn't get any color, but.... with all the benefits I did get I definitely can't complain....

Also, it seems like my other products are working better as a result, if that makes sense...

Another bonus: I only used half! Stuck the rest in the freezer, and I'm already contemplating the next henna day!!!!

Maybe you can add something (like lemon juice) to encourage the color release. I was trying to stay away from color because I was already nervous about doing my first henna

hm.... I'll keep that in mind next time.... I guess with the yogurt and EVOO, that should counter any dryness I get with the lemon juice....

So, I just refreshed yesterday's WnG with water, Quenched curls, and a bit of the soufflé and fro hawked.... I can really see the color of the henna @ the top of my head this way (yay!). I have promised myself that this is my last day (until maybe Sunday) wearing it out, especially with the temperature dropping again (it's been 60+ for the last week in Charlotte). My problem is I have a serious HIH obsession, and the protective styles don't allow me access to my hair's soft, lamb-like goodness..... *sigh* I have a serious addiction... LOL

Tonight during Idol I will twist it and actually LEAVE them in until Sunday... I will keep telling myself this as motivation!
