Curlmixtress
Hello Ladies, I have been natural for 17 years now, but really, knot-ural. My hair is recovering from years of microbraids (my own hair) with zero conditioning, minimal washing and sparse moisturizing. It's sad but true. And I KNEW better. I will say this as my lame excuse, I spent most of those years ina struggling marraige, raising 1, 2, 3, then 5 sons, and working on my education, while working fulll or part time. STILL, my hair deserved better, and I am determined to pamper her. It's been four months since I have gotten hair-conscious. Curlynikki and all of these wonderful forums woke me up. After nearly 17 years of wearing my hair in twists and braids only, cause I couldn't handle my texture just out, I now rock my twist n curls as a staple. Yeah ME! Thank you Curly Nikki (I'm tearing up right now) and all of the lovely ladies who inspire me with their hair successes.
Today, I'm going to wash my hair and twist n curl it. However, there's always something new I want to try, so, I'm cowashing with citric acid and baking soda in my conditioner. I've read about it on the forums and it's supposed to make your hair feel REALLY silky. That almost never happens to me, so I want to try. Right now, I'm on day 7 of a dry twist out and although it doesn't look great, I certainly don't look flyy. Musn't delay any longer, lest I fall back into the grips of negligence! I'm off to pamper my true love, my curly-kinky hair.

Welcome curlmixtress. I'm so glad to hear that you are now loving that gorgeous mane of yours. Most of us if not all of us have dealt with our own personal issues that kept us from not loving what we were blessed with. Sites like CN.com help in the process of working that out. There is such a great support system here. If no one in your life understands what you're going through in regard to your hair you'll definitely find someone here who does!
NOW, what kind of mixes/concoctions can you share with your fellow curlies since you're the curlmixtress? Be sure to let us know how the citric acid & backing soda conditioner turns out. That word acid scares me a bit lol

Curlmixtress - I am so glad you are finally going to be able to take some time to do something for yourself and that beautiful head of hair.
I think we are all guiltly of letting life consume us and not paying attention to ourselves - be it mind, body or spirit. That being said, I wish you all the best as your hair recovers and I look forward to you sharing some recipes.

Re: Curlmixtress
I've already changed my mind. I should have just done it, instead I started reading hair blogs and forums which reminded me how much my hair loves a hot oil, so now I'm hot oiling.
Thanks for the lovely welcome ladies, and here's my oil combo. I plan to add wheatgerm oil to the mix as soon as I restock.
Curlmixtress's Hot Oil
castor oil
sunflower oil
olive oil
ev coconut oil
Blend together. I'm still playing with the proportions, it's always great, you can't get it wrong.

Hey big sis, welcome to the challenge. Yes indeed, these hair blogs can be very addicting, yet u must back away from the computer and put your hands in your hair Im loving those ingredients in your hot oil treatment, definitely something I'll have to try.

Thank you ladies. Here's how my twist n curl came out. The hot oil made it really bouncy.

Re: Curlmixtress
lovely curls... do you only apply the hot oil to your scalp or from root to tip?

Re: Curlmixtress
Thank you, ladies!
Siren, I massage the oil into my scalp as well. It helps clear any buildup and afterwards, my scalp is lightly oiled.
So, my curls didn't hold up overnight. Another one day twist n curl. However, at least I know why. I had finally hit upon the dynamic duo that gave me five day hair. I used them this time, but the oil from the hot oil made the curls too soft. Next time, I'll do a cowash after the hot oil to get more of the oil out. This time, I just rinsed with water. I'm not complaining though, it's still decent, just not fabulous. It's great for truely impressive one day hair though. I've NEVER had that much bounce in my hair since my permed dominican wrap days. It was fun! But now I'm in ponytails

Re: Curlmixtress
My scalp feels so frsh and clean. I keep touching it, and my curls are soooo soft. I'm just in love with my hair right now. I just read CurlyNikki's winter routine and it sounds a lot like my own. I'm trying to only wash my hair two or three times a month now. It seems that many of these natural ladies with long fabulous hair don't wash it that often. So, I am trying.... We'll see what my hair thinks.
Re: Curlmixtress
nice twist and curls do you use big twist or small twist and do you roll them I want to try. and do you put the oil in microwave or use a plastic cap.

Re: Curlmixtress
Tonight's my hair night. I plan to do a twist n curl on dry hair.
Truet- I use small twists, not like my avatar. I usually divide my head into four sections and put in about 6-8 twists per section. I apply the oil to wet hair and put on a plastic cap. Then I sat under the dryer on low for 15 minutes. I let it sit an additional 15 minutes before going back to rinse it out. If you want really soft curls then just rinse, if you want curls that will stay once you Twist n curl it, then rinse the oil out with conditioner. Let me know how it goes, and thanx for the compliment.
