Re: Indian Grocery
Ok so I put the henna in my hair last night kept it in 3hrs as per the instructions DC and washed that out this morning and this is what I got. The only product in my hair right now is Cantu leave in conditioner but I must say after rinsing the henna out my hair was extremly soft didn't think I needed to DC but of course I always do. So I don't see the the vibrant color I was looking for so I'll try and try again.

@NaturalHunny~
It looks healthy and shinny!!!
You may want to leave it in longer about 8 hours if you can. Wrap it up good and sleep with it. Or like i do 7-8am Saturday morning till about 4-5pm. I put on a hat if i have to go out and run errands...LOL

@CurlyMo I will definitely leave it in longer next time. I was anxious and afraid I would have really bright red hair but I won't quit until I get my sandy brown/honey brown color!!

Re: Indian Grocery
If thats what you want try 2tbs of paprikka next time it should work.
Or Hibiscus Flower, boil the hibiscus in water, when it cools use it to mix your henna...That should do it

Re: Indian Grocery
@naturalhonney...it looks very nice. I couldn't see the difference in color on my hair initially unless I was outside or took a picture of my hair and the flash would show its true color.
Re: Indian Grocery
@AfrikanLatina~ Thanks!! I only see the color if I take my hands and pull it back and be up close in the mirror its very subtle looks to be a burgundy color.

Re: Indian Grocery
Found some Mehandi henna in an Indian store I stumbled into after lunch one day. It came in cellophane BUT it had a date, 08-09!!!! I said Aww snap! and snagged that junk up. Today i mixed it up and that dye release was instant! Best grocery henna I have used yet! smooth mix and easy application. I have the mind to go back and buy them completely out...... can't wait to check out my tresses in the morning!!!

Hi Naturallhoney! Your results from the henna look so awesome. I can't wait until I'm 100% natural and can try and do my hair like yours. Could you tell me where in New York you got your henna.
I live in Brooklyn and I haven't been able to find any henna. I don't want to pay shipping cost for ordering the henna on-line.
Please help!

@Ziggs if you do a computer search of Indian grocery stores in Queens, Bklyn etc. you will find many locations. There is a Indian chain store called "Patel Brothers" they carry henna as well.

Re: Indian Grocery
So I went to the Indian shop near my home based on that amazing link. I bought up his entire stock of Mashhoor henna lol. There were other kinds but that one looked the most legit. I have to take my braids out because there's a rash developing along the front of my scalp So I'll probably do my first henna treatment in a week or so after I let my hair breathe! Yay!

Re: Indian Grocery
Thanks Naturalhoney and Maricopa! I found some henna at a middle eastern store on Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn. I hope it's okay. This is my first time trying it. It cost $5 the Brand is "beauty herbal"? It has Mehendi blended with Amla Brahmi, Shikakai, Mahabrigraj it says its for cololoring and conditioning. I'm more interested in the conditioning.
I'm going to be doing it tomorrow. I'm going to look for a recipe now. I'll let you guys know how it turned out. I can't figure out how to down load pictures from my camera to my laptop. I wish I had a teenager in the house who could do that stuff for me! Hope your enjoying your sunday.

Re: Indian Grocery
My Henna update. I did my first henna today!
Here's what I did. Made chamamille and fenugreek tea. Added dried Hibiscus flowers to the tea. Mixed hennawith tea and let sit overnight in fridge. In the morning I added olive oil, sweet almond oil and honey to henna.
It was really easy to rinse out and I loved the slight hint of burgurgundy. I liked it so much I cut off the inch I had left of relaxed hair. My twists are about 5 inches. I love that my ends curl up now! Thanks for your help! Wish I had a pic to show you guys.

Re: Indian Grocery
About to do my first henna treatment! I mixed it last night with lemon juice. I think I'm gonna add about a tablespoon of amla powder because I'm afraid that the henna will make my hair too red. I'm using Jamila henna.

Re: Indian Grocery
Lucky7, I just did my first henna treatment. Adding the oil definately helps. I oiled my hair with olive oil and coconut oil the night before doing the henna. My hair felt like all the moisture was sucked right out of it after the henna. I use shea butter and mix it with a butter from Karen body beautiful to moisturize. My hair is so thick and feels healthy, no shedding. I love the results. Let us know how it turns out.
