Indian Grocery
Most times, when purchasing henna, I go to my local Indian grocery. A new store just opened in my area, and they also sell cassia and amla. So, here is a website that shows locations in each state.
I thought this may be helpful to someone else!

Re: Indian Grocery
Thanks alot! That actually did help me out. I've been getting the Dulhan henna from an Indian store in my area that I found online. The website you gave shows another store in my area. I'm gonna check that one out and see if they have the Jamila henna. I really wanna try that kind.

Re: Indian Grocery
Niqui36- I am glad it helped. They dont have all of the ones listed in my area! I got to go to one that is actually closer to my house! I think I am going to try to mix it with beet juice, this next time for a more auburn color.
Re: Indian Grocery
Beet juice sounds interesting.....let me know how that works. I'd like a more auburn color in my hair. I've only done 3 henna treatments so far (my natural hair color is dark brown) and already I can see some color in certain light.

Re: Indian Grocery
If anyone can FIND the Jamila (Super Sift 08-09) in an Indian Store please do tell...I have asked all my local Indian Stores and they don't have it nor can they order it for me. The store's in my area say they can't get it because it's from Pakistan and they only have contacts form Indian and order only from India...tryin to now look for a Pakistan Grocer.....

Re: Indian Grocery
@curlymo- I usually buy whatever they have in the store. The only difference in the hennas that I have tried is that some rinse out better than others. Some of them will dye faster than others

I would lookout for the year of the crop and be sure to look for 2008-2009 for freshness as well as in foil vs. cellophane it mix's/applies better but i have to agree if you look for the freshness it may not matter it will be a brand choice at that point....

Re: Indian Grocery
@CurlyMo~What is the name of the henna you purchased at the Indian store that made your hair black (or almost black) and had amla in it? That's just what I'm looking for. Thanks!

Re: Indian Grocery
@curlymo......today I have searched high and low for Jamila and indigo and no one seems to carry that brand. They carried Suryi which came in array of different colors. which I was reluctant to buy. I Went abt 15 to 20 indiangrocery stores with no luck. If anyone has an exact location in nyc where i can pick up some henna please let me know....I am almost at the end of my search. I will just order it on-line....my feet are killing me. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Try www.butters-n-bars.com they have the best shipping price to purchase the Jamila BAQ i buy the Super Sift Summer Crop 2009....There is a differance in freshness of the henna and what the year of crop is.
Buy only natural henna its been said that some indian stores do carry henna, but some many times the henna is not freash and will have poor results
Some extra reading hennaforhair.com

Henna does not come in different colors. Blond henna, Red henna, Brown henna, so if you see these dont waste your money thinking its henna some of thoes only contail minimal henna and the rest dye and some dont contain henna at all.
If you want color you can add things to it. I use Amla if i want it darker blackish color, if i want reddish color i add 3tbs of Paprika or a burgandy a little ground cinnamon...if im looking for brownish color i will boil some Organic Hibiscus Flowers in Lemon Juice and add it to my henna mix.

Re: Indian Grocery
Also Jamila henna is a from Pakistan I believe, so you probably wont find it any indian grocers. You'll only find Indian brands, try a Pakistan grocery store if they exist in your area for the Jamila brand.

Re: Indian Grocery
@CurlyMo fyi today I found Jamila Henna at a local Indian grocery store, the name of the store is "Patel Brothers" it is a chain store and it may be in your city/area. The henna was amazingly priced @ 1.99 a box. which is great ant no shipping charges. Do a internet search for a possible location near you.

Re: Indian Grocery
@maricopa- I am glad that you found it! Like I said before- henna is henna. You know like some people prefer Heinz and some prefer Hunts. Some like Pepsi - some like Coke! The only thing is - some hennas are gritty and some arent. Some the dye releases quick and some, not so quick!
