Good moisturizers Empty Good moisturizers

Post by Pandagirl 25th March 2011, 9:43 pm

Hello Everyone!

I recently cut the last of me relaxed hair off a few days ago and the moisturizer that I used when I was relaxed and during transition leaves my hair with a weird residue, like it sits on top of my hair. The kind that I use is Herbal Essences none of your fizziness, my question is what good moisturizers do you guys recommend? I don't really know my hair type, or if that even matters in this case. But it's really coily and cottony in throughout.

Thanks!

Congrats!!!

What shampoo do u use?
Do u use a leave in?

I have very cottony hair. I use Quemet Biologics Alma and Olive heavy cream (ordered online) n my hair stays moisturized for days...

When I first chopped my hair, it was really dry for the first month or so...

Anyways, good luck girl! Enjoy the journey!

Thanks! =]

I use Pantene Pro-V naturefusion moisture balance shampoo, though I have shampooed my hair yet since bc-ing. Is it a good shampoo? I like that way it smells and it cleans my hair well.

I don't use a leave in, and I'm not sure if i need one yet. Those two products are a little pricey! lol Do you know of any similar products that are a little cheaper? I'm kinda on the broke side. =p

Shampoos in general can be a bit drying. You can try washing with a conditioner...

As for a similar product that can do the job, pure Shea butter is just as good... So u can try that. You can buy that from wholefoods.

We are in a recession! So I feel u...

I'm hoping some other ladies will comment...

Please keep us posted.

I use the Herbal Essence Hello Hydration and my hair loves it. I use it to co-wash, regular conditioner, and also when I want to DC, I add a little honey and EVOO to it.

Thanks for the replies! I will try dome shea butter and Hello Hydration since it's a whole lot cheaper than the Quemet Biologics Alma and Olive heavy cream. lol and if that fails then maybe I'll give those two a shot.

I think I'll ultimately switch to the Cantu products, as long as my hair likes them. : ) I have the rinse-out conditioner now, and it's very thick and nourishing to my hair. I got it from Wal-Mart. The Cantu products contain shea butter and are reasonably priced.

I also have Joico K-Pak conditioner, from when I was heat styling my hair. It works well on my hair as well, but is a bit pricey.

For shampoo, I have Kinky Curly Come Clean. For the leave-in, I've been using the Garnier Sleek & Shine leave-in conditioner and a hair oil blend I got from the drug store (too lazy to go check on the name right now!)

This is the method I used when I figured out how to keep my hair moisturized after my big chop. My top three inexpensive conditioners are herbal essence hello hydration, suave shea and almond and aussie moist. All three are under $5. I use these conditioners to cowash, regular condition and dc (I add honey, evoo and jojoba oil). Next I used a leave in Giovanni direct leave in or kkkt, styled with ecostyle and added coconut oil on top.

I cowashed my hair every other day and refreshed with water, suave coconut conditioner and jojoba oil in a spray bottle. I hope this helps.

@Panda, honestly you need to figure out your hair type before figuring out what moisturizer to use. This can save you money and time. Check out www.livecurlylivefree.com to see what porosity, elasticity, and texture your hair is. Based on that information start to determine which products work best for your type of hair.

My hair went from overly porous (avoiding heavy emollients and humectants) to low porosity (adding more emollients and humectants) to maintain the moisture balance. Also, when you are figuring out your hair type, texture, etc, you will figure out about the use of proteins. It's important to maintain a protein/moisture balance. Too much of one or the other can lead to dry hair!

Good luck!

HI Pandagirl, My hair is really dry too. When I no-poo I use Herbal Essence Hello Hydration and Olive Oil cover with a plastic cap & tie with a silk scarf then I put on my trusty winter hat. I look a little crazy but it beats sitting under the dyer for heat. Besides this way I can do things around the house, condition & moisturize my hair at the same time. Once I rise I add my Knot-to-day leave in. Add my creamy homemade Shea butter mix and I’m good to go.

Good Luck!

Dorothy
