Anyone do their own big chop?
I think I've finally hit my breaking point. I'm working out 5 days a week, so this transitioning is killing me. Fighting my hair in the locker room every morning is not what that is. I've already had a lot of breakage, so I might as well just cut my losses. I've been meaning to call a beautician someone recommended all week, but it hasn't happened. So ... I'm getting tempted to do it myself. I already have 3 wigs at home in case it's an EPIC fail.
Did anyone else do their own BC? Regrets?

Hi Jessi,
Congrats on working out 5 days a week.
I did not BC and I understand the challenge of working with 2 textures.
i have questions. If you own 3 wigs, why are you fighting with your hair every morning? Can you braid it or put it in a bun to work out? At what point is your hair breaking? How are you detangling your hair & what product are you using?
Just trying to identify some interim solutions to give you alittle more time to make your decision. HTH

Re: Anyone do their own big chop?
Well ... it's a done deal! I chopped it off. Not quite sure how I feel about it, but at least I'm not in tears ...lol.
I AM a little worried about what my husband's going to say. I sent a text letting him know I did it.
@Falcon ... although I have the wigs, I've never been a big wearer. I've been throwing them in my gym bag and putting them on 'as needed' ... like the past 2 days. But honestly, I don't like that I'm resorting to wig wearing. I don't like that I'm hiding it, if that makes sense.
My hair's not long enough to bun. And I took a liiiiiiitttle bit lower a couple of weeks, so I really can't bun it.
I detangle my hair when I wash ... under running water. For the most part, I've been using Hello Hydration in the shower when I shampoo and/or condition.

Congrats!
You can always go to a pro and have it shaped to make it even if required, or to shape it up a bit. I cut my own hair for years (more like trimming), but had to bite the bullet and had someone who actually know what they are doing to even it up once. LOL

Go for it.
As others have said you can always go to a professional if you don't like your own handywork. I have been natural for a long time, but recently cut my hair back down to a twa to cut off some highlights. The beauty of curly hair is that unless you make a giant hole or bald spot, most "mistakes" will be hidden in the curls.

Congrats on the BC!
I did my own as well. It was such an amazing experience and I definitely don't have any regrets. One of my proudest/happiest moments!

Re: Anyone do their own big chop?
Thanks for the support.
@freckled ... Sunday woul have made 8 months.
I'm not comfortable enough with it to wear it out, so I had a wig on today. I just don't think I'm ready for the attention (or the negative comments from my mother). I don't regret it though. Hubby's reaction was 'I can deal with it, buy I don't like it'. I guess it will take us both some getting used to.
I do need to have someone snip some these relaxed ends that I missed though.
I wish we could post pictures from our phone. I took one in my car when I snagged the wig off after I left work ... lol. I hadn't even left the parking garage and that wig was in my passenger seat.

Okie dokie ... my first pictures EVER on CN!!!
But, this is how it turned out. I knew I had some relaxed stragglers on there, but these pictures REALLY make me see them.

You look great! You look so happy in your profile pic. I had to get my hubby to help in the back & it took a couple of weeks before I was able to get all the relaxed ends. Congrats again & enjoy!

Re: Anyone do their own big chop?
YAY!!!
So happy for you (the exercise and the BC)!!!
I did mine, but I cheated (I had a short cut )
So I had to cut all the relaxer off the top of my head only.
I understand about the Hubz-
you don't want to turn them OFF!
But I was so crazy at the time
I just didn't give a hoot whether he liked it or not-
Heck
I'm cute regardless of hair length!!
He wasn't crazy about it,
but he said "your hair grows fast anyway"
as if to say he can wait it out (LOL).
It has grown alot in the past 8 months,
and he keeps his hands in my hair
more than I do!!

Re: Anyone do their own big chop?
Thanks guys!!! You ladies have such lovely do's. I'll be there soon.
I feel like I'm living a double life since I've been wearing wigs all weekend ... lol. I'm out sick today (feeling kinda crappy), so since I'm home, I'm going to try to do some twists. I took advantage of the Shea Moisture BOGO sale at walgreens and am under the dryer this very moment with the deep treatment masque. We'll see how it goes!
