I have aspirations of going to pharmacy school myself! I'm getting a B.A. degree in biology first, do you think pharm schools would prefer a B.S. degree instead or does it really matter?

@dajewel--yes we are.....lol... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

@NAPPYJER19----Why a BA in biology first? Just apply to pharmacy school. It is already a 6 yr program, why stretch it out longer...lol [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
But to answer your question, it will probably be easier and more acceptable if you just applied straight to pharmacy school. Rather than doing the BA first.

Yes, I'm in Orgo I &&& will be taking the second half of the sequence next semester...! I actually love the topics we're studying right now. To me, its more interesting than the general chemistry courses I've taken in the past. I'm just stressing because our FINAL exams are coming up soon! I wish my flat-twisting techniques were better, so I could leave them in for a week, not have to worry about it & just study!

Post by Intelligentbeauty 4th December 2009, 3:38 pm

Hi again dajewel, I am glad you are a resident here because something has been puzzling me since I started this transition and I had no one to talk to about it.

I am one that believes that hair care and skin care is a science. Obviously, we know this is true, hence the cosmetic industry. But what I mean is that there has to be a way that one can decifer which combination of ingredients work extremely well for one's hair. I am thinking this can be achieved by carefully analyzing the ingredients of the products already bought that works and making a list of the top 5 ingredients. Then finding other products with the same ingredients or even making the products ourselves with those ingredients. I am finding that alot of the products ingredients repeat themselves in different combinations. If one could recognize the right formula for one's hair type. It would be Great hair heaven every single day until the hair changes again. Also one will not have to be a PJ anymore (unless one wanted to be...lol) because one will know exactly what formula is correct for the hair type. Thus allowing us to keep more money in our pocket...lol.
Have you explored this? And if so what are your thoughts?

Hey, there!!

i bolded the ingredients that contribute to the make-your-hair-melt feeling:

water, stearyl alcohol, cetyl alcohol, stearamido-propyl dimethylamine, glutamic acid, fragrance, bis-amniopropyl dimethicone, benzyl alcohol, edta, ecklonia radiata extract (australian sea kelp extract), simmondisa chinensis (jojoba) seed oil, aloe barbadensis leaf juice extract, methylchloroisothiazolinone, methylisothiazolinon

i haven't tried this product, but I am really liking how this combination of ingredients intrinsically work together!! The items that have been bolded seem to even further maximize the benefits of the australian sea kelp extract, jojoba seed oil and the aloe leaf juice. I would take slight caution, however, because the stearamidopropyl dimethylamine could lead to dermatitis; the sea kelp, jojoba seed oil and the leaf juice will help counteract this condition, though.

Hey, there!!

These are some very valid points that you are discussing!

Personally, I have my growing list of top ingredients/combinations that work for my hair under certain circumstances to achieve certain looks. I definitely use this list to help decipher which products would work best in my hair. I find this method could even be a cost-effective measure, in that you are able to hone in on specific ingredients and purchase specific ingredients to recreate the style that you are achieving. For example, my hair loves products that have shea butter in the top five list of ingredients. I have been able to save money by buying the butter in bulk. Always remember that buying the ingredient in bulk is usually cheaper than purchasing the finished product. Regardless, this will not deter my PJ'ism because at the end of the day I am a girl and I like nice-smelling things that does the business on my hair!!

Many products do repeat themselves in different combinations for a variety of reasons:

1)A lot of the ingredients are easy to acquire by any and all companies due to price. For example, remember the Aussie Moist Condish from earlier? Stearyl and cetyl alcohol are easy to make, and thus very cheap. A lot of companies buy these because they are cheap.

2) You will see stearyl and cetyl alcohol in a lot of conditioners because it is widely known that these ingredients do well in adding moisture, conditioning and keeping the rest of the ingredients intact while being generally non-irritating.

3) The cool thing about science is that there are usually more than one ingredient that can do the same job to a certain extent. Sometimes you will only see stearyl alcohol by itself and sometimes cetyl alcohol by itself. Sometimes, like in Aussie Moist condish, they are added in combination to increase the benefits of both ingredients. I, myself, look for ingredients that do the same job. For example, my hair loves behentrimonium methosulfate and marshmellow root because they both detangle my hair.

4) Different companies have different combinations of the same ingredients because they are catering to demographics that may require, for example, more or less of certain ingredients.
also, keep in mind that most conditioners will usually have fatty alcohols (such as stearyl and cetyl alcohols) and non-polar substances because conditioners are generally meant to attract and retain moisture in the hair.

So, in essence, figuring out your personal hair science should not be a laborious task. In fact, think of it as you being your own personal mixstress, deciphering which ingredients in ready-made products that should be higher, lower or eliminated from your hair care regime.
