Help with sealing

Hello ladies,

A newbie to the forum....I am going into my fourth year of being natural but have just recently got serious about taking care of my hair. I see a lot about sealing but not quite sure how to do it. Right now my staple style is the two strand twist and curl. I would really appreciate any feedback on how to seal.

I think what you're referring to is sealing in moisture? After applying your moisturizer of choice (water, leave in conditioner, etc), you would seal in the moisture with an oil (EVOO, Sweet Almond Oil, Castor, Coconut, etc) or a butter (Shea, Mango, etc). The sealing process helps to lock the moisture into your hair.

Depending on your hair, it may respond better to oils than butters or vise versa. Also, depending on the ingredients of your moisturizer, it may have butters/oils already, so the extra sealing step wouldn't really be necessary.

Ok thanks so much..How do i add the oil to my hair would have been the better question? Do I add it as I two strand twist each section?

If you're doing two strand twists, it's probably easier to add it to each section as you twist (grab hair, smooth on oil, and twist). This way, you're oiling all of your hair evenly from root to tip.

Is there anyway to seal TWAs? I apply oil to my hair, but I'm not sure if this is considered "sealing" per se. Thanks!

Adding oil to your hair is considered sealing. For a TWA, water may not be enough moisture, so I would recommend adding leave-in before the oil. Also, TWAs can be very dry. If you are experiencing very dry hair try to co-wash often, like every other day, and DC 2-3 times a week until you get the moisture under control.
