I've been "natural" most of my life, but I big chopped because of heat damage a little over a year ago and started to wear my hair naturally curly. Sine then I've loved my hair, but recently, because of the length, I've been having a really difficult time with it. Its like wires growing out of my head! It is very coarse and does not take to color at all. I don't know what to use in it because nothing sinks into it. If I use a cream that is white, it will just sit on top of my hair and stay white. I've used gels, but the cheap ones are drying and the expensive ones are sticky. The good part is I don't have problems with breakage because its so strong and resistant, but thats about the only thing I like about it.
Are there any products that work on low porosity hair? I'm about ready to break down & get a relaxer, but I know I'll probably regret it.

I apologize for not having any advice to offer. I am still new at this myself, but wanted to offer a kind word or two. Things may seem overwhelming and frustrating right now, but keep trying! In my very short experience as a natural, I have learned that it takes awhile to determine what works best for your hair. One person's staple product may be the bain of another's existence. It's all trial and error.

On another note, perhaps the length that you BCd to is best for now. You say you loved it. It may be worth exploring again..at least until you find the right products.

Stay encouraged and be blessed.

When's the last time you clarified your hair? If you haven't done that in a while, try that and see if that helps you out.

I think this is the part that is most frustrating when transitioning or growing your hair out because its pretty much trial and error like someone stated earlier. a product that is a staple of mine and I love that I recommend, you might hate. So you have to explore and see what works best for you. Have you considered trying some natural products? Shea butter, aloe vera gel/juice, vegetable glycerin(warmer months) or an organic line of products? I have found some of the best products for my hair are the things I whipped up in my kitchen with natural ingredients.

Once I found a few good products (moisturizer, leave-in, styling product, deep conditioner, cleanser/shampoo) and a good regimen I have stuck to it and that is sort of bad for me because I have a ton of products at home from the begininning of my journey that I havent even cracked open yet.

So just keep experimenting and maybe its time for a protective style to give your hair and you a break. Thats what I always do. I just(well a few weeks ago) took down a protective style and it gave me a chance to actually miss my hair and remember why I was/am on this journey..

Hope this helps some!!

Have you tried using oils like vitamin e, jojoba, castor and coconut? I find those sink into my low porosity hair really well (I mix them together on a 1 tbls to 1 tbls ratio). I run about a quarter sized amount through my hair whenever it needs it. Good luck!
