GRAYS!?!?!?
Ladies I need your input! I am 24 and starting to go gray! I noticed it about a week or so ago. I have several grays and whites throughout my hair. I saw the ones I have in my right temple area and my father actually plucked 2 from the back of my head at the crown. I don't want to color them but I am too young for this! I had some when I was about 12 but I attributed them to my hormones (I had some deficiencies) as they went away after I started taking the prescribed medication. Now, years later, they are back. Could it be the coconut oil? I need someone to tell me something!! HELP!!

LOL. I don't think it's the coconut oil. Some people go gray early. Like CN's mom and herself. You could a) embrace it or b) color them.

Can't change genetics if that is what it is. Men in my family gray as children. Behavioral things such as stress, you can change. In 3 months of severe stress darn near 1 /3 of my hair turned gray. The reality is 1) stay gray 2) color or 3) henna. I chose the henna route since I wanted the strengthening since proteins were a no go for me. So, Tiff, join us henna heads--LOL

My father started graying at 21, and my husband also started to get grays early (he's a Soldier, I'm sure 4 trips to Iraq didn't help). Just color them and keep it moving!

Re: GRAYS!?!?!?
You know, honestly I thought stress making you go gray was a myth. Thinking about it, it would make sense b/c my stress levels have been extremely high since December right before I started school. Other things have been thrown way outta wack as well if ya get my drift... By the end of the semester I am gonna be walking around looking like Storm from X-Men. Stress has to be the culprit b/c no one in my family under 50 has any. I thought henna colored your grays blond? I don't want that either, lol.

Aww lol don't worry much about it.. but may i ask WHY DID YOU PLUCK IT OUT? . They say when you pull them more grow back. I got some grey hairs too, and I noticed them when i was 12 years old as well. Mine are not so obvious because I dyed by hair and they are mostly in the center/crown of my head. Don't worry about it hun ur choice what you want to do

Re: GRAYS!?!?!?
I started graying in college - it started with stress. Now (at 28) I have so many that I lost count.
Re: GRAYS!?!?!?
Tiff dear, you are lucky. But wanted to say, henna make the greys a copper color. So, do your research, like in school and make a decision what you want to do.
And sometimes, early graying does run in the family, and can skip a generation. Might be your turn!!!
Love ya!!!

Lol...awww Ambitious_Tiff...
Strangely, as a kid, I always wanted gray hair. I loved the color gray/silver. Every time I saw a gray head at the salon, I would be in awe...I even asked my stylist if she could color me gray...I vowed to never cover my grays when the day comes, I just hope it is not a gradual process. I just want to wake up totally gray...lol...

It's not terrible. Some follicles tap out early and stop coloring the hair. I am 23 and i have a few.

Re: GRAYS!?!?!?
@Music8192
My father pulled them out to show them to me b/c I didn't believe him, lol.
@MissyCee
Copper huh? I think maybe I was getting it mixed up with cassia. Lol, if its true that sometimes it skips, I am noticing a little trend in my family, lol. Everything that skips, gets me!
@Indigo.Blue
There is a condition in which one appears to go gray almost overnight. Its called alopecia areata. Its an auto immune disease where the follicles of pigmented hairs are attacked and those hairs fall out. I believe the hair can grow back but it too will lack pigment...
@Sebastian13
Girl, please keep me updated on how it turns out. Lol, please.

I was gonna say, if it was a health thing first time around, maybe check your health again? I dunno how it works in the US, but got see your doctor, get some bloods taken, analyse your stress levels and your diet, get some exercise, etc.
If the problem's still there after, it's embrace or dye!

Yeah, Jo, I am kinda thinking the same thing healthwise... I made an appointment with my GP so hopefully he will be able to shed some light on things. He knows my history with my thyroid and all so we should have no problem comparing now to then. I currently excerise about 3 days a week but I have one serious natural sense of urgency. I usually don't feel stressed but my body says otherwise.

Re: GRAYS!?!?!?
I started to get gray hair in my late 20's. I don't have many hairs but they do make their presence known because it seems these hair have their own texture. They refuse to submit to twists, braids and blow outs. I just roll with it. I wish the rest of my hair was as strong as the gray strands! With the exception of my brother, who was born with gray hair, people in my family generally gray late. I wish that I have a streak of gray like my mother's. It's cool and makes me think of Cruella De Vil.
As a matter of health, I'd definitely see the doctor anyway. Stress manifests itself in different ways. I lose sleep, lose appetite, lose weight. If graying relates to nutritional deficiencies (not really sure if there is a correlation), I would blame the presence of my grays on that time when I was most stressed and lost 25 lbs.

Re: GRAYS!?!?!?
You just taught me something new @Ambitious_Tiff ... I started getting gray hair right in middle school... maybe it was my hormones but I'm not sure .... bc I have deficiencies as well. I have been on my medication for a few months and I have been coloring my hair but I have said to myself this will be the last color for a while. So I will see if the pills are helping or not.
Re: GRAYS!?!?!?
@ Ms. Moore
I do believe certain nutritional deficiencies can contribute to graying of the hair. Originally, mine had been attributed to hormonal inbalance with my thyroid. Lol, I don't want my Cruella DeVille streak until I am about 70... I do wonder why the grays must misbehave so. Is it not enough to simply stand out, lol?
@Psbest
I think its worth a look. I was on medication for about a year or before everything had gotten itself back on an even keel. My hair definitely stopped coming out and the grays went away. There are several things that are happening now that mirror what was going on then (thank God the hair loss isn't one of them) but some things I am not sure if it is my thyroid again or the stress. In any case, if it does turn out to be my thyroid, I will gladly let you know.
