Co-Washing
Not sure if this has been addressed. There is a natural hair stylist (with her own products) here in Columbus, OH who criticized me for only co-washing my hair. They said you wouldn't co-wash your body. How do you respond to nay sayers.

I only co wash my hair on a wkly basis & I havent had any problems with it I also agree with the other ladies as well
Re: Co-Washing
When we wash our skin, most of us prefer a moisturizing soap, so I don't see how that is so different.

Like the other ladies stated....your hair and body are two different things. Some people co-wash/no poo, some do the low poo thing. It's a matter of what your hair responds to best and personal perference.

Lol, that's interesting. I don't think anyone would wash their body with lotion or oil. However I do use the OCM on my face and I habve noticed a big difference in my skin. The cells that make up skin are living, hair is not. There's nothing wrong with cowashing. Just like there's nothing inherently wrong with shampoo. However shampoo just tends to be harsher and more stripping to the hair. Just like with shampoo, when you cowash you still have to agitate the hair and scalp to remove oils and other buildup. Your hair will be more likely to thank you for the cowash though... Just MHO.

LOL, I also live in Columbus and have been to the stylist that you are referring to. Albeit, I have not gone back in a while but I think that you have to do what is right for your own hair. I no longer use her products because I wanted to use more natural products and at times I do Cowash. However, I listen to my hair and when it feels dirty I will wash with sulfate free shampoos that cost less than her products. And don't get me started on the use of heat in that salon. But that is my opinion. Have fun on your journey.

Re: Co-Washing
I find that beauticians often pass judgment or your past beuticion or you if you care for your own hair. When I moved down from chicago every beautician that I tried out said the samething. Each time they claimed that my hair was in shambles and I need to cut off my "dead ends" which was about two inches. Not sure but it sounds like this natural beatician is pulling this same trick. They start off saying how bad of a job that you or your beautician is doing and go one to say " I can fix it. You just need to come back every six weeks to get your hair back to health." Next she'd say that her line is the "ONLY" product will help your hair.
forgive me for my rant. one of the main reasons Im natural is because I got tired of other people telling me how to do my hair....there is no one way to care for natural hair. this beautician seems to closed minded to be a natural stylist......end venting now

They want U to come back every Six weeks so they can get yr Money and the products R probably their products right? . If U R not having problems with yr hair i.e. breakage keep doing what yr doing and check out the forum and ask questions. A lot of these ladies in this forum R very knowledgeable on black hair. I'm still learning myself. I'm 5months natural.
